It’s already expensive for tourists, we know who will object to this while ripping them off themselves

So make it more expensivr for tourists.. that will work out great

A bed tax makes perfect sense. Hotels and similar have been coining it while other tourist sector businesses have suffered, this allows accommodation to be separated out.

    4. It’s common enough in a lot of countries and doesn’t seem to stop people so could be looked at? USA is standard all over, Latvia charge €1 a night and it’s 12.5% overnight fee in Amsterdam and doesn’t seem to stop tourist numbers.

Another excellent reason to avoid the drug infested shithole.

Tourism is down 25% and these clowns want to make it even more expensive?

This country is riddled with actual cretins.

Tourist taxes are very common throughout Europe. It’s normally only 1%. I think it’s a great idea.

nobody notices the tourist tax, its a pure win. every big city has it, and its a nice pot of money to spend on improving local amenities.

Tourism is down 25%. How do you plan on improving the number of visitors to Ireland.

Tax them sure the ones that do come will pay for the shortfall.

      Local government probably

Tourism down 25%…get the brains trust together! This is what they come up with.

I wouldn’t be against it if they used it properly – increasing street cleaning, tidying up the city as a while, increasing gardai presence – most cities have areas where there are plenty in an area.

Instead it’ll go towards more quangos and stupid projects.

It’s a good idea but only if it’s spent on tourist infrastructure or climate change adaptation, not just more marketing.

      Dublin is insane,

We are due to hit Dublin next weekend, and we had a hotel booked €220 for the Night, €40 for car park & €60 in fuel….

We are going to see a show, but we just cancelled the hotel and we are gonna just drive up and down…

But out of curiosity, we looked at a hotel in London with flights and the tickets for the a show…for 2 nights in London it’s pretty much the same money

Yeah sounds real smart. Tourism is down -25% and those who turn up are spending -13% less. How can we increase demand? Anyone? Any ideas?

      Let’s raise taxes

    15. balbuljata on

It makes sense. At the moment we are paying for the amenities that tourists use. A tourist tax will make tourists pay their fair share as well. That’s the idea behind it.
