I like the idea not sure how it would work in practice Article 5 is firstly for members of the Alliance so Ukraine would need to join in some way, but not all current members would green light the application.

Secondly an Article 5 response is based on the decision of the other alliance members so if say the US responded with thoughts and prayers that would satisfy Article 5.

Russia’s peace intentions are clear. They are the peace that comes from the mass graves Russia has filled with Ukrainians beside the “filtration camps” in the Ukrainian cities Russia has occupied.

If the free world wants both peace and life, stop Putin, now, by force.

While our politicians continue to fuck around and waste time and lives, you and I can help the only men and women putting their lives on the line to stop Putin. You and I can do something right now by donating directly to Ukraine’s armed forces at [https://u24.gov.ua/](https://u24.gov.ua/)

We can only see peace through strength. Europe is now fast tracking it’s defence with or without US support and will be prepared for any Russian invasion. Keep the sanctions up and support for Ukraine and Putin’s Russia will fail. Last resort is war directly but if it comes to it Europe will be ready.

We know why Russia won’t budge re: NATO / Article 5 coverage of Ukraine. So that they can continue to attack whenever they feel the moment is right. They’ve always said NATO expansion to their borders threatens their security. In a way, when Putin and his cronies say this, they are right – what’s keeping them in power is the ability to invade other countries to keep Russian citizens focused on the idea of restoring the glory of the Russian Empire, rather than focusing on government corruption and their own abysmal standard of living. For the average Russian, the ultimate aspiration is to be feared. Put a neighboring country under Article 5 and that country won’t be afraid anymore.

Ukraine won’t relinquish any of its 1991 territory including the parts that Russia forcibly seized, and Russia will never relinquish Crimea and with only slightly less confidence I’d say Russia will never relinquish Donbas, either.

so all this talk of peace and cease-fire is little more than noise

IMO given the current state of affairs, it would test NATO’s willingness to respond to Article 5 activation more than anything else.
