While I’m not particularly knowledgeable of Charlestown’s weather, hip roofs are better for windy weather than gable roofs – which is at least relevant in the west.
I know nothing about them but I’ve always loved them. Gorgeous wee houses
From what I know I think they’re houses farmers built on spare plots of land to make a bit of money, common from 50’s-70’s. That’s my guess anyways
These houses appear to be Irish railway cottages or gatekeeper’s cottages, a common architectural style found in Ireland from the mid-to-late 19th century.
These houses were typically built for railway workers, estate gatekeepers, or rural laborers. Their compact design and durable construction made them practical for housing workers near transport routes or estates.
I’m wondering are these farm labourers cottages built by local councils?
A friend lives in similar albeit they are adjoining would you believe.
