      hey guys, german here – even tho we have about 25% of right wing dip shits in our country, we are doing our best to not let this end in another genocide, trust me.

      i know historically speaking the numbers are stacked against us but we try our best, promise! 😀

      As A German: The headline sounds as if a giant is about to wake up. The German military is anything but and won’t be for a number of years.

      It will take more than just alot of money to fix this. All the paperwork and processes need to be overhauled. The military basically needs a complete reform. And the german public needs to have mindshift too that its worth defending what we had here the last 80 years. Its gonna be alot of work but the more pressure is on germany and europe the bigger the will to change.

      Is it even vibrating? Sorry for scepticism about “seismic moment”, but here in Ukraine only echoes of “till the end” and meetings to discuss (11 years so far).

      Folks, I have some reservations about spending a lot of money on the military. I am all for it, but I have a creeping suspicion that we will still buy mostly US weapons.

      How do we as citizens make sure that the EU buys European arms only with this money. I’m not German, I am Dutch, and I would hope that my German friends would want to make sure that this money is spent on Germany and European industry as well.

      Just thinking about CDU being in power again with politicians like Andi Scheuer or Jens Spahn… I’m quite sure a big chunk of that money is going to be embezzled.

      I am German.

      And I understand some of the concerns about our history.

      I also understand some people’s concerns about what would happen if the AfD came to power and the Bundeswehr was fully armed.

      Other “concerns” that Germany, or the EU, could threaten Russia EVEN MORE are ridiculous, because who is threatening Europe (not just the EU)?

      Who is attacking and destroying our undersea connections?

      Who is attacking our IT infrastructure to spy on it and destroy it?

      So, what should a response look like, like sending flowers and saying thank you?

      Germany is in the middle of Europe, our neighbors are also arming themselves so that we can TOGETHER defend our freedom and our basic democratic values.

      If WE COULD ALL live together in peace, that would be the perfect world, but we are a long way from that.

      But who knows, one day this vision will come true.

      I’m worried bereaucracy would eat into all that money. We need to take inspiration from Canada, where they are aiming to streamline paper work so that they get big projects kickstarted asap, under the “1 economy, not 13” slogan.
