Dilek İmamoğlu Addresses Crowd in Saraçhane: “Ekrem Will Win Again!”
Dilek İmamoğlu, wife of detained Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, spoke at a public gathering in Saraçhane, where thousands had gathered in solidarity.
Powerful Speech Met with Chants
Throughout her speech, the crowd frequently erupted into chants. When Dilek İmamoğlu declared, “They arrested Ekrem. They don’t understand what this unjust imprisonment means to millions, but they will soon realize,” the crowd responded with “Dictator Erdoğan” slogans.
She also recalled her husband’s struggles during the 2019 elections, referencing his famous words: “I do not take away anyone’s rights, and I will not let mine be taken away either.” In response, the crowd chanted “Thief Tayyip.”

“Ekrem İmamoğlu has already defeated them four times. He will defeat them a fifth time—whether he is a candidate or not, whether he is inside or outside! Because he has become the symbol of the people’s dignity struggle. You will be defeated!”

Well, I sincerely wish them luck in this and not only them. Even if they fail to implement all the desired and necessary reforms, ensuring a change of government is the minimum that needs to be done.
For context, 4 times he won against Erdoğan before:
1- Ekrem İmamoğlu elected Beylikdüzü (a district in İstanbul) mayor in 2014 against rival AKP.
2- He was elected İstanbul mayor in 2019 March against former prime minister of AKP. It is the first time a prime minister raced for a lower seat. Erdoğan used all his power but İmamoğlu won by 13K (or around that much) difference as a rather unkown candidate before the campaign.
Erdoğan cancelled elections results for İstanbul in May ousting İmamoğlu.
3- İmamoğlu won reelection in 2019 by landslide difference (800K)
4- İmamoğlu won again in 2024. AKP Candidate was an ex-minister. Most of the ministers even Defense Minister and Foreign Relations Minister (State Secretary) was actively campaigned. Former alliance partner of İmamoğlu left. Against all these, İmamoğlu won by 1M difference.

not to be a negative nancy but i’ve seen it way too many times already. i wish it was true but i feel like this is gonna die down in 2-3 weeks. we are clearly a dictatorship now there is no denying it, they don’t go down without bloodshed.
