      When i see the police … The usual pattern of populists… it doesn’t change and yet there are at least 30% of the population who vote for these parties against their better judgment… even in our country… and these 30% then help to maintain later regimes and implement inhumane measures.

      Turkey is trapped in a cycle. Around 30-35 years ago, the people currently in power faced difficulties from the then-government, labeled as “Islamist and reactionary.” Today, Turkey has been governed by a government often described as politically Islamist for the past 20 years. Most of the protests nowadays are led by university students. When these educated young people reach leadership positions in the future, they may retaliate against the current government and its right-wing supporters, mirroring the oppression they once faced. A complete vicious cycle.
