Good luck with our fellow citizens, for years everything to do with the military was evil in Germany and Austria.

This society cannot and will not produce soldiers.

At least not without massive financial incentives, which I can understand.

The barracks would be empty without coercion.

    2. I think it is the wrong question, same as in many polls, it should not be “Would YOU fight for Germany?” but rather “Would YOU fight to defend Germany (or better for any European country “to defend Europe”)

    3. ArtemisJolt on

I’d volunteer to fight a defensive war. I would not volunteer to secure the economics interests of German corporations in developing countries.

It’s a difference and I think a lot of Gen Z Germans agree with me

    4. Lets say it like this:

Would i fight for germany? yes.

Would i fight for germany if AfD was ruling? hell no.

Without any doubts! I would go the very first day! IDK… I am not even questioning myself. Germany, Italy, France, Poland, Estonia… whoever needs the most! We are Europe! We can’t survive in isolation! We are huge power if acting together!

I Would defend the cutrent Germany. I Would defend a Future Europe. But only for a democracy!

No matter how much money we spent on shiny new tanks: If no one feels like actually climbing into the thing, it becomes a quite expensive paperweight.

“No one wants war but we must prepare for it.”

Pretty close to a universal statement.

    9. ManonFire1213 on

Most people would be willing to defend their home country.

But ask those who would be willing to go fight in another country? Would be far less.

In peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons.

War against who? Russia is glooming over Europe countries because we don’t have enough deterance. They see and know our weaknesses.
In my country we can’t even pass a law to shut down russian drones that illegaly cross our borders. Maybe Merkel made deals with Russia because of this, knowing how week EU is without US. Only you cant trust Russia.
EU has had the longest lasting peace and economic growth. Europe is in really bad shape without US and US thinks Europe needs to be taught a lesson, also they saw China as the big bully now and try to partner with our worst enemy. China is already moving to retake Taiwan.
It’s still not ww3 scenario, but we’re getting very close.
Much can happen to resist this Eastern threat, but things move very slow.

I wouldn’t fight for Germany but I would fight for my lifestyle, for the life I’ve built in Germany, for the future of my children in this country.

I’d also feel kind of bad “meterialistically” since some “invader” would just come in and take my stuff. He’d be chilling on my sofa watching movies on my TV, sleep in my bed etc. Nah I don’t think I’d be OK with that. I get angry when someone cuts in line in front of me so I don’t think I’d be like “here you go sir, please take my stuff while I run away to live in a refugee camp in England”.

The alternative to standing up for myself is to run away which is an option of course but then after a while I would have to run away again unless we naively assume that the aggressor who meets no resistance will just stop.

All the instagram “men used to wage wars” and “now they wear nail polish” memers can get their boots on the ground lmao

Lots of people willing to give money to Ukraine and let others die for them in a proxy.

Not many willing to actually fight.

    16. Theobrom on

Fighting a war as always been unpopular, as as it is the people dying. That’s why mostly every war has always been framed as an outside attack and the state is just responding and defending an aggression.

So, how defensive can someone be?

I’d formulate it like this: piling up weapons is in germanys/europes economical interest. Being strong militarily is in our interest, to be able to enforce economical interests.

Not German but Dutch, spend years a a reservist for the army, but started a family. I would not hesitate to go full service if that means my kids can live in a ruzzia free Europa.

here be go again, Germany is really back yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh

There is one simple problem nowadays: During WW1 and WW2 families had a lot of children, it was ok to send some of them to war.

But nowadays European families have mostly very few children. And if a family has only 1 or 2 children and invests a lot of time and money into education etc., then the consequence is clear:

You do not send them to war.

    20. Ancient-Trifle2391 on

Getting shot without feeling bad? Sign me up as long as its defensive in nature.

    21. EzmegaziS on

Those old people who want to send us to war should be transported to a deserted island. Let them settle it among themselves.

    22. Apparent_Antithesis on

Not willing to be part of an offensive/invasion force. Also not willing to be deployed to some proxy war elsewhere in the world.
But I’m not gonna sit back and do nothing when some asshole foreign power is invading my country, or some other European country. That mere idea makes me angry as fuck.

    23. More I keep reading comments, more I’m happy we joined NATO with swedes
