      >Further highlighting the ongoing social inequalities of fuel and related policies, the findings also demonstrate within the European Union (EU), the wealthiest 1% of all its population is responsible for 66% of the distance currently travelled by air. In fact, air travel is almost non-existent for 50%, and even quite limited for 90% of EU citizens the paper shows.

      >This 90% of people, therefore, emit less than 0.1 ton of CO2 equivalent emissions per person, per year. Meanwhile the top 1% emit more than 22 tons per person/year.

I flew three times in my 30 years of life (well, six if you count the return trip).
Hope you rich shits are having a great time while turning our planet into an uninhabitle hellhole for the rest of us.

Every major cultural change started at the common guy and affected the rich. Slavery, unions, me-too. But somehow the worst of them all isn’t worth most people’s attention and is stuck in the blame phase.

    4. or, you could say, almost all of the pollution is from jet planes

Am I too late or too early to kill the rich this time?

    6. eucariota92 on

Ohh no !!! Please EU do something. Please ban flying or increase my taxes. Pleaseeeee. There are people dying.

Our billionaire king is a pilot so he can burn the kerosine himself. Pedal to the metal.

Millionaires will continue to gaslight the population.

No surprise. It’s known that if you made a carbon tax and distributed the money across all citizens, for the vast majority of people it would be a net positive. But it never gets passed because everyone thinks they’re in the 1% (they’re not).

It’s the rich convincing the poor they’re could be billionaires if only they tried harder.

*Clearly* the fuel for my Fiat needed to be more expensive then.

    11. AlwaysStayHumble on

Fine. Reduce taxes for normal flights and add them for citizens who fly over 12 times a year, maybe?

    12. berejser on

There should be a tax that’s cumulative. So if you only fly once a year you don’t pay any tax. If you fly two or three times the tax is quite small. If you fly between five and ten times the tax is moderate. If you fly 20 times or more then the tax is huge. That was the lions share of the tax is being paid by the wealthiest 1% and normal folk who only fly for a yearly or two-yearly holiday aren’t affected.

We desperately need a media that shares these kind of news, a media with the **99%** not owned by someone who wamts to feed us with their news

So wait, maybe co2 trading should just genuinely be per capita, use it, sell it, or buy it.

Oh geez if only it were to benefit rich, we’d have it already.

    16. Tuurke64 on

      This is completely *untrue*.

An average human already emits 1 kg of CO2 per day just by breathing, that’s 0.365 tons per year.

    17. Nicita27 on

Better check your personal carbon food print because you can make the differents.

    22. 26HopeSt on

And they make people use paper straws, pay extra taxes etc… The nerve of the rich! We must bring them down.

    23. anarchisto on

Tax flights (remove VAT exemption on jet fuel, on plane tickets, etc), use the money for high-speed rail subsidies and investment.

    24. EgoistHedonist on

Why are we still subsidizing plane kerosine?! Flying should cost more goddammit

    25. totalgej on

100kg of co2 per year?? Thats major BS! Just 1 liter of gas is ~2,5 kg of co2 and most ppl drive more than those 700km yearly. And thats just gas
