Hi, Dutch guy here. I did my mandatory 14 months of military service in 1990. Was boring as fuck, even in a time of the end of the cold war and the first Gulf war in Kuwait. Forward to today. At this moment it is very hard to find staff, in any field of work. I don’t know where our government is thinking to find 100,000 men and women to join the military voluntarily. You can forget mandatory service, no one is going to do that. At least not the 100,000 extras they need permanently. It’s a lot of big words and numbers but let’s be real, it’s not going to happen.
Tbf, there are some regiments to be formed out of the scrum masters, accountants, tax lawyers, growth hackers, customer success managers, B2B saas business development managers, corporate storytellers and purpose coaches that form the core of our white collar labour force.
Not sure if it would be helpful for the defence of Europe, but we should at least check if there will be enough post-its and bean bags on the front line.
Necessary and terrible at the same time, because what remains is the sad realization that nothing good has ever come from armament in the history of mankind.
Curious how many people will actually want to join the military, chances are we’ll see conscription soon and many people will be upset, some political parties will rally against the idea and gain %.

Wanting and doing are two diffent things. Afaik all countries want to have more soldiers, but none of them have at least the pre-war ranks filled.
Yes, all nice and stuff, but this government wants a bunch of stuff but can’t get anything done because they’re incompentent as hell.
