*[…] As JD Vance watched the outrage over his wife’s trip grow, he decided to join her, the senior White House official told CNN.*

*“It was a combination of a little bit of commotion from Danish leaders combined with Vance wanting to go for a while,” said the official, who added that the vice president argued that if Danish and island leaders were going to get “worked up” over his wife’s visit, they could get worked up over him, and his entourage, traveling to the territory.*

*[…] “Unfortunately, Danish leaders have spent decades mistreating the Greenlandic people, treating them like second class citizens and allowing infrastructure on the island to fall into disrepair. Expect the Vice President to emphasize these points as well,” the senior White House official said.*

*The stop at the base highlights some of the rationale behind the Trump administration’s ambitions for Greenland: its strategic importance in the frozen upper latitudes, where competition with Russia and China is fierce.*

*[…] “Trump’s talk of annexation and the visit of the Vances has united Greenlanders in defiance, with Greenlanders rallying together to protest,” Dwayne Ryan Menezes, director of the UK-based think tank Polar Research and Policy Initiative, told CNN in an email.*

*“The Vances clearly realised that if they visited Nuuk or Sisimiut, the strategy would backfire even more than it has: it would be a PR disaster, as all footage would likely feature protestors with placards of the sort we saw earlier this month (Yankee Go Home, and Make America Go Away), and would expose to the US electorate the misinformation they were fed about how enthusiastically Greenlanders wished for Greenland to join the US,” he said.*

Oh no. Criticized a racist homophobic facist with design on taking over another country? Sigh.

I hope he goes home really, really fast. Do not need him in Europe.

Didn’t Denmark send troops to both Iraq and Afghanistan? Have they even been thanked for that yet by JD Vance.

Many people would take pride in being criticised by Vance. If he thinks you are wrong, you are probably right.

I can’t wait ‘til they bring back the red scare and call us communists.

Starting to see why JD Vance’s mum tried to exchange him for drugs.

Imagine the trillions of collective minutes of countless people’s lives around the world being wasted reading about this gang of morons every day. I can’t keep this up for another 4 (20?) years – it’s such a waste of my life.

The USA’s behavior is odd. It would be odd if let’s say the Danish PM’s people went around USA neighborhoods asking for people to meet her or her husband. Weird.

You are organizing a party at the house you threaten to take over, and you are surprised that the owner is not cooperating.

What kind of detachment from reality is that? What an audacity to attempt in the first place?

JD Vance looks like smells seats after people get up.

Maybe Greenland should officially change its name to Illegal immigrants. So that the Republicans want nothing to do with it anymore.

“We need illegal immigrants” doesn’t have the same ring to it for the MAGA crowd.

Unfortunately the US has spent decades (actually more) to treat people of Puerto Rico as second class citizen and most of US mainland too. They treated some costal and northern states populations as citizen but of cource not people in places like Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama as no such thing to mention just a few. Some of those US proper states looks more like developing countries and the population is illiterate (at least with very low education outcome) and not very seldom drugaddicts etc.

If one compare diffrent parts of the US, one could not complaine that much of the danish governments focus on Greenland. The US may want to focus on their own population if concern for peoples well beeing was at all on centerstage, which it is not.

    15. JD Vance should be the first human to fly to Mars… and stay there.

turning a cultural visit into a political confrontation risks straining diplomatic relations. greenland holds strategic significance, and cooperation should take precedence over public criticism. Productive dialogue strengthens alliances unnecessary tensions do not..

    22. Wise_Swordfish4865 on

The world expected not to give a damn about what’s expected from JD Vance.

    23. Cultural visits don’t contain “and soon we will own you”

    24. shawn1969 on

Sending JD Vance on a charm offensive has gotta be one of Donny’s most idiotic moves.

      US hands off Greenland!

    25. How is an expectation considered news? I mean I have as much disdain for the guy as the next dude, but can’t we at least wait until he actually does something stupid again. It’s not like we’re gonna have to wait that long given his track record.

Let’s try and keep ourselves factual, we need to be better than the MAGAs, not stoop to their level..

    26. America has a petulant child man for a VP in Vance. This guy has major mom issues and projected it on his wife to solve daddy Trumpy’s latest obsession. It shows intelligence can’t replace psychological inadequacy. Good riddance to these fools.

    27. KarAccidentTowns on

JD Vance is an ugly motherfucker. Good for the people of Greenland; they don’t owe him or his wife shit.

    28. eugene20 on

I’m sure we’ll be told Denmark should give up the rights to Greenland because his wife wasn’t met by someone in a suit.

    29. 14_In_Duck on

Oh, I’m sure they are absolutely quivering in their boots in anticipation of JDs “criticism”.

    30. AyeAyeandGoodbye on

Ignore the fool just like you’ve ignored his wife. These imbeciles don’t deserve your attention. You “have all the cards”.

      Sincerely, Canada.

    31. Why would we care what those people think about Denmark, Greenland or any other European state? You don’t do business with fascists, you don’t invite them to your home.

    32. christizzz on

he should STFU and be thankful that Europe is still allowing US Bases and Military personnel on its soil.
