From 1926 -> 1989 (Virtually no growth after 1989, only decline)
Armenian population – 743 571 -> 3 083 616
Georgian population – 1 788 186 -> 3 787 393
There used to be 2x more Georgians than Armenians, now we’re barely ahead by a million. Armenian population increased by ~4.14x. Meanwhile Georgian only by ~2.11x.
Why were Georgian birth rates so low during the Soviet Era? If we had grown by the same rate as Armenians there would’ve been 7.4 MILLION Georgians today, almost 2x the as many as we are now, and we would’ve been without a doubt in a much better position.
I won’t even begin to talk about the Azerbaijani growth
1926 -> 1989
1 437 977 -> 5 804 980 And they almost doubled since then to 9 436 123 (although there are some skepticisms about Azeri numbers post-USSR)
Just imagine that instead of 3.2 million ethnic Georgians there were 7.4 million, what happened? Why did our population not grow as rapidly?
P.S. We also lost 400 k Georgians due to migration from 1991, where did they go? Russia?
