By Shane Croucher – Breaking News Editor:

US. Secretary of State [Marco Rubio](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/marco-rubio) will reportedly meet with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen on the sidelines of a [NATO](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/nato) gathering in Brussels, as U.S. President [Donald Trump](https://www.newsweek.com/topic/donald-trump) makes clear that he wants to take Greenland.

The planned connection was reported by the *Financial Times*, citing two unnamed officials, and would be the first high-level U.S.-Denmark meeting since the new Trump Administration took office in January.

For now only France was the one to have enough balls to keep a firm point with these assholes, I hope Denmark will have a clear position…

They should play “why are you hitting yourself” with this little shit.

Stand firm. Nothing else to do. Show them what they can do within existing treaties and get Rubio to “sell” it to Trump.

      **”Demands”**

Yeah, well, they’re not getting it. Unless they take it by force, which is quite frankly realistic since Trump seems to be dismissing every common sense norm that would stop a more normal POTUS

Exit NATO, it is what Trump wanted in the first place and make it clear that outside of the locals voting for independence and then making the decision of their own to join US (not under duress or occupation) you will not recognize the annexation by force. As for their pretense they require the island for “international security” make it clear that within NATO the US already had access to patrol the waters and build military bases, so the claim is as fake as it can get.

I really hope they let him wait one hour like Putin did.

America is an oligarchic shithole and should be ignored.

Let those idiots freely run it to the ground with the support of their dumbass voters, they wouldn’t be missed.

Damn, I wish I could be a fly on a wall in Denmark’s PM office. There must be some serious thinking going on there. Literally 5 dimensional chess. Their options are very limited but with careful planning and skillful use of whatever assets they hold the situation may be salvageable.

It’s time to stop the hostility. Each NATO member should give him a dozen eggs to take back with him to the US. A very thoughtful gift considering the egg shortages back in the US.

    11. I wonder if he purposely does this just to humiliate people?

He’s sending Marco Rubio, someone who is clearly a supporter of NATO as he introduced a bipartisan bill requiring a 2/3 senate majority or an act of congress to leave the alliance, to go to a NATO gathering to tell the foreign minister of a member state that they want to annex their territory.

      How about no?

I swear these yanks learned nothing from 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombings etc.

    13. Imposing_Swordsman on

I really hope they fucking leave NATO before they get another 9/11, I’d hate to see our European troops go out to middle east to defend them again

Actually, a good strategy. Demands, rejected, declares war, declares war emergency, 3rd term, 4th term….

What happens when the US attacks Greenland?

I mean arguably we have to just give it up… It’s 52,000 people and frankly on China can take on the US.

Europe isn’t in a position to fight the US… Especially when it looks like we need to fight Russia.

I feel a world war coming extremely fast…

    16. ScepticalEconomist on

We need to understand why all this is happening. It’s not for security or resources. Denmark / Greenland would pretty much do what the US wants anyway there.

They want to create a lawless land (or better a land with their laws) for billionaires ->
