      US has left the stage and wants to be alone (yeah, with Russia as best buddy, you’re basically alone). The second most powerful economy in the world, EU, must step in and assume the role of world leader along with other buddies: CA, UK, AUS, Japan, South Korea etc. China, if you play nice, you might be considered a buddy, too

      EU should not even entertain the idea of negotiating with the US. All efforts should be spent discussing FTAs with other countries Trump has hit, especially in Asia.

      This would have been far more reassuring if the first thing Europe then did wasn’t folding and turning a blind eye towards Orban, Erdogan and Vucic.

      If a cocktail of appeasement, capitulation, cowardice, short-termism and indifference, marketed as “realpolitik,” are going to be the leading principles then the last one out might as well turn the lights off.
