The French president is set to take helm of ‘coalition of the willing’ to convince Moscow to halt its war.

      The smart choice.

It could never have been the UK taking the point, we are too hostile towards each other. And Europes point man must be someone from the EU. The UK is an important country within Europe, and this is a Europe wide issue not an EU one. But the EU is absolutely the big dog in the room, it is a majority of the might and power being represented. The person who speaks for Europe on this issue must be from inside the EU.

      Good luck to Macron!

Ok, but then we have to rename it to Western Union 🤣

I really wonder if Macron has some EU leadership ambitions after his mandate runs out in 2027.

Yeah, because Macron did so well three years ago. Macron and Scholz and every other Euro politician wasted days appealing to Putin to not invade Ukraine. Putin laughed at them and didn’t pay a minute of attention to their pathetic attempts as he prepared for the inevitable invasion. They achieved precisely nothing in talking with Putin. Our politicians here in Finland are complete ass too.

Nothing has changed in the Kremlin since then. We have no means in the EU to coerce Putin to do anything. We’re just going to see our politicians waste their time again humiliating themselves, only for Russian media and politicians to laugh at us. We need real bargaining chips, hard currency, weapons, to negotiate. Putin only believes power. Otherwise we walk into these negotiations only to make concessions and get nothing conceded our way.

No he is not point man for Europe. He is talking on behalf of the coalition, nothing else.

How much fishing access is he going to secure?  Russia has a lot of coastline, but very little of it is decent fishing grounds.

Small talks mean nothing. They only boost Putin’s bullying of EU. Until some (or any) of the leaders pick up their balls from the ground and act maturely, Putin will always have a chuckle and fulfill his daily dopamine dose from the talks. We need louder actions, not words to be spoken.

It’s so funny that people still think that they’ll be a lasting ceasefire if it somehow happens.

How many EU Redditors have signed up for military duty in Ukraine? Perhaps y’all are waiting for conscription?

Starmer isn’t gonna lead this? Isn’t he the one who started the Coalition of the Willing?

No arguments from me. Macron has been a good voice for Europe. He has my trust.
