According to history ADAPAZARI (OLD NAME IN ARMENIAN: DONIGASHEN)
The city of Adapazari was founded in the 1400s by a group of Armenians who came from Sivas to escape the attacks of Timurlenk. Before that, there were no settlements in this flat area with only swamps, nor any land suitable for plowing. Between 1400 and 1461, the city was called Donigashen, after which it was renamed Ada or Adacik by the Turks. Later on, due to the commercial importance of this area in parallel with the development of the city, it became a market place and was called Adapazari.
