Proprio come doveva arrivare il treno, fu apportata una modifica della pista annunciata. Non è il tipo in cui ti passeggi casualmente verso la piattaforma successiva, no, questo richiedeva dozzine di persone, compresi i bambini piccoli, per correre giù per le scale, attraverso il pavimento della stazione e eseguire il backup di un altro set di scale. Tutto nel minuto esatto in cui il treno doveva arrivare.
Per fortuna, questo è Deutsche Bahn di cui stiamo parlando, quindi ovviamente il treno era in ritardo. Questo ci ha dato il tempo sufficiente per evocare il nostro Bolt Usain interiore e fare il trattino.
Capisco che le cose vanno male ovunque, ma dopo aver vissuto/viaggiando in 35 paesi, posso onestamente dire: non ho mai visto un livello di incompetenza come DB.

it’s DB, there ain’t realy much to know. i once had to go from Platform 5 -> 1 -> 8 -> 5 again. that was annoying
Yes, obviously they did it deliberately because they hate you.
Regular platform was occupied by another train, that was late?
Because the system only becomes (automatically) aware of the platform change when the signaler at the signalbox sets the switches and signals for this train to proceed to that platform.
As you said, another train was blocking the original planned platform.
Duisburg Hbf is under massive construction work as you will have seen. Platform changes happen all the time because of that.
It happens, get over it.
there are so many options for this scenario.
– platform was already occupied
– another more important train (long distance) needed the platform
– the switch had a malfunction
– problems with the signals at platform 2
– …
if it helps you a bit, it sucks big time for train drivers too. because we also get the notice very short hand and we have to walk all the way back from the end of the platform, down to the hall, to the right platform and then again to the end of the plattform to change personal.
Because when trains are running late they tend to arrive at times where their usual platform is occupied by another train. Putting both trains on the same plattfom is considered catastrophic with lots of injured or dead people.
