“Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) have announced the details of a town hall tomorrow evening, which seeks to address the widespread student criticism of their Sexual Assault Awareness month campaign last week.
Last week, members of TCDSU invited students to beat effigies of bodies hung by their feet around campus in a protest against rape culture, action that drew widespread condemnation for its likeness to lynching.
**TCDSU Welfare and Equality Officer Hamza Bana also stated that STEM students “are more likely to be perpetrators of gender based violence” as they have a higher representation of men in their courses.**
The town hall will be held on Wednesday 9th April at 6pm in the Uí Chadhain theatre in the Arts Building.
The announcement of the town hall was displayed on a notice board in the arts block, with the statement and details being posted on an A4 sheet of paper.
The date and location of the town hall, which was initially pledged in an apology statement made by TCDSU last week, has not been widely shared with students.
**The event has yet to be advertised on the TCDSU social media accounts nor was it mentioned in the weekly union email yesterday.**”
The president elect Seán Thim made an Instagram post here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DID-DeBMWWC/?img_index=1 where he says he and other members were fully against the plan, and after discussions were told that it wasn’t going to go ahead. **Then, apparently Jenny Maguire and another union member went ahead with it anyway.**

What’s with the tarring of STEM students? In my experience STEM students are on the whole nicer than other types. Just my opinion tho.

This, if accurate, is absolutely disgusting behaviour and suggests both a utterly twisted mind behind it’s creation and a complete failure of any internal review process that might exist in this student organisation.

There was no rational thought put into this at all, just pure howlers letting loose. This is the kind of crap that make Andrew Tate fans laugh and damages the very cause that the campaigners *claim* to promote.
Does Trinity University have a rape and sexual assault problem?
Those pieces of paper are students’ personal accounts and experiences with sexual violence. They were submitted at the beginning of the protest. While being anonymous, they were never told that what they wrote would be made public. The welfare officer reacted to this by describing it as an ‘oversight’.
Genuinely moronic behaviour.

As with mainstream politics, if often feels like the students who go into student politics (however well intentioned) are the last people who should do so.
These people wonder why nobody in the real world takes them seriously.
Putting aside the events leading up to the apology/town hall, there is something extra nasty about how they are trying to exclude students that were trageted by the SU from the townhall.
