Wouldn’t we want to lower the price of EV so more people can afford instead? And lower the use of petrol cars.
Uh… Shouldn’t we be making EV’s as cheap as possible to encourage people to switch away from ICE cars?
And suddenly EV adoption crashes, EU manufacturers continue selling ICE and are not pressured to switch, because EV is not price competitive anymore.
And then a decade later they are shocked, why so many still have ICE.
If this goes through, EU automakers will not exist in 10 years.

Now, with a price floor, EU manufacturers can live, and China can stop subsidizing the relevant companies.

Chinese cars have more add-on feature and discount deals. The EU can’t compete even if they are at the same price.
I understand the need to protect European industry, but out of all EU industry the car makers have fucked up so many times it’s getting tiresome to see them get bailed out and helped to this degree when they insist on making poor decisions time and time again.
So many other industries that are more deserving of political support to this very high level, but I guess cars are admittedly very profitable and do provide a lot of jobs
This is just all the negatives of tariffs without the benefits of revenue.
