We need to take harder stances against foreign powers, man, after kowtowing to the US for decades I don’t want us Kowtowing to China now

Oh im sure it will help EU economy and well being. Surely they act in this interest right? Right!?

The EU and China are exploring the establishment of minimum prices for Chinese-made electric vehicles as an alternative to the previously imposed tariffs, which reached as high as 45.3%. This approach marks a significant shift, as past minimum price agreements by the EU have typically involved homogenous commodities rather than complex products like cars, raising questions about its enforceability and effectiveness in addressing subsidy-related injuries.
Wouldn’t we want to lower the price of EV so more people can afford instead? And lower the use of petrol cars.

Uh… Shouldn’t we be making EV’s as cheap as possible to encourage people to switch away from ICE cars?

And suddenly EV adoption crashes, EU manufacturers continue selling ICE and are not pressured to switch, because EV is not price competitive anymore.
And then a decade later they are shocked, why so many still have ICE.

If this goes through, EU automakers will not exist in 10 years.

This somewhat makes sense…
EU market bans subsidising companies directly. China has massively subsidised its EV manufacturers. An unsubsidized firm can’t compete with a subsidised one.
Now, with a price floor, EU manufacturers can live, and China can stop subsidizing the relevant companies.
This might be a win-win.

Seems like the EU leaders hate their people buying cheaper EV, and want their people to pay more money to buy EV? For what? To save their ICE industry by sacrificing their people?

That sounds pretty strange

EVs are so expensive. Look into for example someone from Portugal that can barely pays a rent, how in earth can we pay for reasonable cars that are 40-50k plus.

Isn’t that.. an MSRP?

It is over for Western automakers. It is a temporary patch.
Market shares are not coming back for Western automakers in China.
Chinese cars have more add-on feature and discount deals. The EU can’t compete even if they are at the same price.

I understand the need to protect European industry, but out of all EU industry the car makers have fucked up so many times it’s getting tiresome to see them get bailed out and helped to this degree when they insist on making poor decisions time and time again.
So many other industries that are more deserving of political support to this very high level, but I guess cars are admittedly very profitable and do provide a lot of jobs

This is just all the negatives of tariffs without the benefits of revenue.
Am I misunderstanding or is this a really stupid idea? Just tariff them China doesn’t abide by rules and agreements.
Due_Pomegranate_96 on
Lmao they want to change tariffs for a minimum price for cars that have not been built in Europe.
These EU politicians are a fucking joke, corrupt fucks sold to China.
