“The ruling last week that Marine Le Pen’s National Rally misused millions of euros in European Parliament funds has upended the country’s politics,” writes David Broder, an expert on the European far right, in a guest essay for Times Opinion. But this is a bigger story than Ms. Le Pen, he says. “Embezzlement and polarizing legal decisions aren’t new, of course. But the crisis of Western democracy, most fundamentally, is about voters’ perception that decisions are taken out of their hands. Whatever the merits of each case, courts banning candidates is more likely to speed this sentiment than to slow it. Wrongdoers should be held to account whatever their political popularity. Yet unfavorable court decisions, we should know by now, aren’t going to stop the world’s Trumps.”

I mean, right now they are pretty much stopping MLP from running, and more half of her base is like “Nah, it’s not a problem, her №2 will take the shift and carry our ideas”.

But the pollsters keeps using biased questions like “Would you prefer that MLP run or not?” or “Do you think that judgement disqualifies her ideas?” and then goes everywhere in the right-wing media to claim that a majority of French people want to skin the judges alive.

De toute façon, Trump s’est vu accorder par la cour suprême une immunité totale pour tout ce qu’il pourrait accomplir pendant son mandat.
