The Ministry of National Education (MEB) has announced the appointment results for project schools. As a result of a process lacking any clear criteria, hundreds of teachers from across Turkey have been left without assignments.

**A GUIDE THAT NEEDS A GUIDE**
In February, MEB published a document outlining the criteria for appointment to schools known to the public as “project schools” for administrative and teaching positions. The document, titled “Guide for the Appointment of Teachers and Assignment of Administrators to Educational Institutions Implementing Special Programs and Projects,” included only one notable criterion: having worked as a teacher for at least four years.

Since teachers who have been working in a project school for four years have the right to continue in the same school for another four years, many teachers prioritized their current schools in their preference lists. Those wishing to transfer listed other suitable project schools.

After nearly two months, in April, the announcement of appointment results caused great shock among thousands of teachers. Many highly qualified teachers—those with high scores, achievement certificates, postgraduate education, and awards—were reassigned from their successful schools or left without any assignment despite their preferences.
