      > The Kremlin stated that 8.4 trillion rubles (around £73 billion) have been earmarked for warship construction over the next decade.

That’s quite a lot, and implies in my view that they’re probably focused on building capacity outside the Ukraine and Black Sea theatres. The Black Sea Fleet – with the exception of Moskva – largely comprises low end warships with the [Grigorovich class](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_11356R_frigate) being the most major remaining units…but those are really fairly run of the mill general purpose frigates, certainly nothing you could blow £7.3 bn annually in building.

The amounts imply to me a focus on the [Yasen class](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yasen-class_submarine) which is a high end nuclear attack submarine that can carry 32 land attack missiles, and probably also on the [Gorshkov class](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_22350_frigate) which is a much more high end frigate, with some of the upgraded variants they’ve been considering being very well equipped ships indeed. The upgraded variant has 32 VLS cells for S-350 and 32 strike cells, which is probably the most firepower of any European escort (for now), and they intend to double the number of strikes cells in future ships.

Tldr – the values far exceed what they could plausibly spend on the Black Sea Fleet, and I think this is something of a red flag about Russia’s intentions over the next decade

If only there was a country in Europe with a good Navy also, one the EU could sign an agreement with to help protect them in case of a war.

      Pity they also have fish.

Lol, Ukraine has already sunk half of their fleet. Can’t wait to see more.

    4. Yeah, with what money? The oil income is collapsing, the gold reserve is done this year, the stockpiles are pulling the kit now thats one step above scrap, the banks are being emptied.

And thats just to maintain their current war spending. This is transparent attempt to try to sell the idea that the war isn’t ripping their economy down.

And then the Ukrainian maritime drones will torpedo it like they did in the Black Sea.

All Russian navy is nothing but bottom submarines

      🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

He’s got an aircraft carrier that doesn’t work, what makes him think more ships will be any better!? 🙄🫣

    7. DM_me_your_pleasure on

Why build ships? What use does he have for boats?

    8. That is just rhetoric to make sure America reacts that they need to defend themselves by annexing Greenland, because the Russians are building a fleet to attack it. Which never happens, but give pretext to the US claim. Everyone is just grifting.

This is laughable 😂 I hope he does because that’s just a waste of money.

Good. Let him spend more and more money while his economy is slowly going down the drain 👍

In a few years he won’t have the funds to finish the construction of these ships 😆

      Do it.. bankrupt yourself..

Its one of the reasons the wall fell and the USSR fell.

The soviet union trying to keep up with the US spending

How’s he going to pay for it? Russian oil is trading at $65 a barrel, if it drops to $50, which is looking very possible, that would destabilize Russia’s federal budget.

    13. AddictedToRugs on

Where’s Russia going to find that kind of money?

    14. Mr_Gaslight on

Of all the f***ing things Russia needs to spend money on right now, that’s not it. Forgetting that their naval shipbuilding is managing to go bankrupt in wartime and being the sole supplier to the Russian Navy, I’d not trust them with more money. When the Russian credit crunch comes, look for it to start in banks tied to their lousy shipbuilding. Then again, it’ll hasten their next 1991 moment, so maybe they should crack on.

I call bullshit , Nato should keep advancing their investment in the artic but not let it be a distraction. Arctic bullshit is decades away at best , especially for places like Canada or Greenland .

It is awfully cute that American and Russia propaganda are twinsies, though .

Putin always has the best timing with his pudding sandwiches he serves to the west.

    16. Redragontoughstreet on

Yeah I don’t worry too much about the Russian navy.
