Complex issue and situation, but in short, there isn’t much leverage of a choice.

Essentially either decisions will be made for Armenia by Russia, or Armenian itself will decide how to deal with its neighbors. Even if they are enemies.

And there is another tough pill to swallow. What is Armenia ever going to do to change anything? Nothing. Just face it. Nothing. This is why you’ll notice this admin move away from the victim mentality and the genocide etc.

Aside from that Azeris (backed by Turkey) and constantly trying to shape Armenia to be an aggressor. And Armenia essentially does and says everything publicly to prove it’s not us.

it’s not really “cozying up to erdogan”, weather people like it or not relations with turkey have to be created or else we’ll stay blockaded in our own region. The only problem with that is the genocide which both governments seem to be avoiding in their talks, that also doesn’t equal denying the genocide.

And from what i know and heard, some of the people the government blocked from entering the country were ARF members who said certain things towards the government.

Azerbaijan has been outwardly very different in discussions and negotiations prior to the significant swing in military capacity between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It is the same country, but vastly different in its boldness and appetite, because the context and the prevailing circumstances are different.

This is the same with Armenia, but Armenians are largely too emotional and vainglorious to accept that for our national continuity and wellbeing, we have to swallow the humiliation and make peace with the injustice that we cannot advance our interests in the way that meets the needs of national pride. Pride and dignity are for the powerful, and throughout the last several decades we made sure that we would be week. We sowed and now we shall reap.

When did Nikol deny the genocide? Also in 2007 diaspora groups were pressing Kocharyan to support passage of the US Congressional resolution to recognizing the genocide, but he refused saying “I don’t need it. What I need is the border open and an opportunity to offset the giant trade imbalance with Turkey.” And Serj did the same thing in 2009 I believe. Meanwhile it was during Nikol when both the congress and the president recognized the genocide, meaning Nikol didn’t oppose to it. So who is the genocide denier now?

These are liberals who are desperate to sell out for a deal that will lead to foreign investment so they can do better business. They despise anyone who thinks in terms other than making money and they don’t care because (a bit like the diaspora they like to blame for everything) most of them are rich enough to already have EU passports and homes they can flee to if and when things go horribly wrong.

Japan did not recognize its WW1-WW2 war crimes and atrocities committed in China and South Korea, but the victims still do business with them.

I don’t think that becoming a new Cuba of Caucasus is a solution. Countries either cooperate or there never will be peace. That’s how Europe got more or less united.

What are the other options? Russia is not an ally, China is not concerned, Iran exists; but has issues with USA and helps Russia continuing war in Ukraine, USA definitely not with this administration, EU is unconcerned and arming up

No one’s denied the Armenian Genocide. Armenia simply has nothing to gain from pushing the genocide issue. It will only nuke any potential opening of the border.

Pashinyan’s doing exactly what he should be doing: talking soft while buying arms to deter aggression. Armenia has diversified its arms, made significant purchases, ramped up domestic production and garnered a ton of support from newly formed Western friends.

The odds are still stacked against Armenia, and Armenia has no leverage and little agency in controlling its fate, but it’s heading in the right direction.

What’s more, the anti-corruption measures have done wonders for the economy, which directly contributes to its defensive capabilities and further promotes more investment.
