It’s very much up to personal opinion. I’m sure locals will point out areas of interest that are missing. But to see it all would be an unreal amount of driving.

    2. HighDeltaVee on

True in the sense that that is indeed the whole WAW.

However, anyone planning on actually getting anything out of that better have their own transport and plan on two weeks’ holidays to see everything properly, relax, find nice places to eat, etc.

Otherwise they’ll basically send spend their entire time driving on narrow roads just to get a tickbox.

If it’s designed to take in purely WAW spots, get the Tarbert ferry and skip a lot of driving. Also seems mad to skip everything past Mizen Head; Schull, Ballydehob, Inchydoney, Kinsale are all fantastic spots

At a glance I can see it misses most of the good bits in Sligo, that alone is enough to call nonsense.

      False.

In the first instance simply because that doesn’t fully follow the waw.

Adare isn’t on the WAW. Technically the Kilimer ti Tarbert ferry is the route of the WAW.

Although I would find it acceptable to go back into town via Kildysart and onto Limerick and out the N69

After loop head, get the ferry across the Shannon from Killimer to Tarbert and if you have time take a trip to Carrigafoyle castle and Ballybunion.

    7. Nope, misses out most of West Cork.

One end of the Wild Atlantic Way is officially Kinsale so that’s a big one to miss out.

    8. Dolly_Pet on

      False
You would miss a huge section off West Cork and you miss the coast road from Clifden to Galway.

Which is objectively and without any overstatement a full on tragedy.

I cant believe they are passing up the chance to start or end in Muff.. missing out 1/2 the inishowen peninsula and missing west Cork as others have said

    10. Off the topic of true or false, but I like how it’s quite specific places ( like a road or island ) – But then it’s also just ‘Sligo’, ‘Galway’, ‘Cork’ – Like go see the whole thing. All of those counties.

    11. Capaill1 on

Missing the whole of the Fanad peninsula isn’t very ultimate.

I think it’s more worthwhile to take your time and do it section by section. Driving straight from Cork to Mizen Head for example makes absolutely no sense—I could list 15 unmissable places along that stretch alone, and I’m sure people out west could say the same. The only reason to do a route like the one of the map here, IMO, is to be able to say you’ve “done” the WAW. But it’s missing the point of it.

Wherever you go will be worth it though!

Cram too much into one trip makes it difficult to actually enjoy it. I know this from experience as well lol

    14. CascaydeWave on

I mean yeah this is just a really streamlined WAW itinerary if aiming to do the whole thing. It cuts out some if the less direct/efficent bits like West Cork/North Kerry/Conamara.

    15. NaveTheFirst on

Ideally you want to start in Derry as a base then south. Actual start is Muff

    16. _Run_Forest_ on

Its a coast looking at water. you won’t remember 95% of it. you’ll never forget all the driving though.

    17. light-heart-ed on

As others have mentioned, a lot of West Cork is missed. Kinsale, Ballydehob, Inchydoney, Schull, Fanad Peninsula, etc. are all beautiful and most definitely part of the WAW!

    18. GamingMunster on

Well I can talk a bit about Donegal, I think that, for all the hype, Malin Head is not massively impressive. Sure it is the most northernly point of the island of Ireland, but nothing exceptional. I think Fort Dunree/Mamore Gap/Urris are more worth it.

And other than the Bunbeg wreck, Arranmore easily.

    19. Jesus_Phish on

Wincing at the idea of how much that would cost in accomodation. You’d have to do it in a camper van or something.

    20. Immortal_Tuttle on

To be on Achill, go to Down Patrick head and miss Belmullet and a few beautiful coves around? C’mon

    21. Resident_Rate1807 on

Great !. Expensive for accommodation but you could always rent a car and buy a tent. Book into a camp site every other day for showers etc. some beaches have showers etc so it could be done and be a epic holiday

    22. AseethroughMan on

Only doing half of the ‘Inishowen 100’ is just stupifying, Malin Head is a beautiful sight but not a start or finish. You’d miss some really picturesque sights.

    23. Various_Alfalfa_1078 on

Also why go from Dingle peninsula to Adare? Surely stay on the coast Rd to go to ballybunion and all the other beaches!

    24. LimerickLegend on

This just reminds me how beautiful our country is. I’ve done all of this (in smaller bits such as the Ring of Kerry) and it is simply awe inspiring to travel along that route.
