Am I mistaken, or was the price not printed on the form you filled out to accompany your laundry?

Hotel laundry services are always stupid expensive and generally a last resort.

      Yes, Switzerland is expensive

No, not THAT expensive. You didn’t “get scammed” because, well, you didn’t check pricing before ordering a service. But still, it’s very expensive

I‘ve seen higher prices per piece in Swiss hotels. I would say this is average. It‘s also the reason I never wash clothes by the hotel in Switzerland. Price per washing load like in many other countries is not very common here (once saw it for 20.-) and mostly available at hostels.

    4. My only question is the socks. Did you have 10 individual socks (5 pairs) or 10 pairs (20 socks) because 3.50 per sock rather than per pair would be a bit of a “gotcha” moment for me, at 7 total per pair. (It’s not like you’d wash only one sock).

If it’s per pair, then it’s a reasonable price.

Also, it doesn’t matter where you are in the world, washing at a hotel is always gonna be “expensive” in the local context of prices, it’s just that you’re doing it in Switzerland.

It’s pretty expensive, but washing small items like socks and underwear in a hotel will give you a bad time in a lot of places

    6. It’s bad, but you’re also getting doubly fucked by the exchange rate.

Yes and yes. Laundry service in a Hotel is crazy expensive and i‘d consider it a trap. On the other hand i never saw a reasonable priced laundry service in a hotel anywhere in the world. So this is not something specific to switzerland. Its more a universal trap.

Washing is not the luxury, ironing is. Sorry to hear that you experienced that, some hotels charge crazy charges. Maybe you can get a refund by telling them that you just wanted to clothes washed and not ironed?

I travel a lot. A real lot. Never have I handed over a laundry bag without a slip listing the contents and the price per item.

I’m not sure what you expected; yes it’s expensive. But this is self-inflicted.

    10. That‘s not a trap, those are standard laundry prices, are they high? Yes! Can you avoid it? Yes, there are other alternatives. And the prices were listed before you sent your stuff to wash.

Like in every other country I would always first make the deal and then use it. It’s clear your fault.

But the prices are ridiculous. I would never use it, then I wash my clothes in the room with the water cooker. Lol

Hotel laundry services are almost always crazy expensive, it’s not Switzerland specific at all. But of course Switzerland just generally has higher prices, that’s well known.

    13. Zenith_Predator on

Seems like an average price for Switzerland unfortunately as hotel washing can be expensive.

CHF 7 to wash a pair of socks is absolutely retarded. No matter if you saw the price before or not, I would definitely complain. It’s just that Swiss people are used to getting swindled so they normalise exorbitant costs like these.

    14. LeoTichi on

People can say it’s your fault for not reading Price. Nevertheless these prices are sure scams.

    15. keltyx98 on

This is crazy ridiculous. Posting it as a review wouldn’t hurt anyone

    16. Dude apply some common sense.
Laundry washing in hotels is expensive everywhere.
      Just go to a laundromat.

    17. KittyLemur on

You got definitely tourist trapped. My mom can‘t do her own laundry because of her broken back and pays 50 Francs per 50L bag of clothes, including them retrieving the bags at home and delivering them back again neatly folded.

      Edit: I think it’s a 30L bag not 50L, but still.

    18. Mediocre-Metal-1796 on

That’s not a swiss tourist trap. All hotels worldwide do loundry overprized, often it’s cheaper to buy a new tshirt in the city instead of getting the dirty one washed by the hotel 😀

    19. monolit333 on

Well, Switzerland is expensive. It is stupid to compare it to “Paris” lol

    20. TheTomatoes2 on

You have American salaries, not Swiss

But yeah that was a bit of a scam, unless you had special garments. It’s a hotel service after all. Like the Minibar.

    21. WeakStorage4786 on

Yes Switzerland is hella expensive, but washing services in Hotels are always more than hella expensive. You got both 😂

    22. funkyferdy on

35 CHF for 10 Socks, man, for this price you get brand new ones….

    23. babicko90 on

its a tourist trap. Normal tourists never use this service. I travel with a family of 4, never washed anything at the hotel. I use the service on business travel, and just book it to the company. Hotels usually play at this with their high prices

    24. LeoTichi on

LoL the amount of people down voting this . The same supreme ego in swiss and Germany – there is no racism no scams, we are perfect. Lol 🤣
