It’s a good starting off point but there will be considerable mention that the Northside loses out again

Thats beautiful. Was mad to be passing by there a while back (a year ago) and theres literally parking spaces on the main street. Like wtf.

Love that it has a massive park and ride facility. Thats the big thing missing in Dublin – there’s a few, but not enough.

I’ll be raging if it isn’t called the C-LUAS. Cork, Limerick and Galway need light rail and we never should have stopped expanding the network in Dublin.

Is it an oversight not to go with a North-South route and connect the airport to Kent Station? Given how slow we are with large scale projects should a route connecting the airport to the city have been prioritised?

I’m largely thinking about how the All Island Rail Review envisages Cork being connected to Dublin and Belfast with faster, more frequent train services and how a LUAS could contribute to the overall accessibility of Cork with the rest of Ireland via the train network (Of course the All Island Rail Review needs to be built!)

I’m not familiar with Cork whatsoever, so TIA for anyone with informed opinions on it

      Important bit is here

However, it will be several years before construction starts

I’m 35 and I’m pretty certain this is never getting built in my lifetime at the rate we deliver projects.

Is this next to the draft route for the High Speed rail link between Cork and Dublin that I didn’t just make up and is definitely happening?

    8. Watch this get stuck in “planning” for the next two decades.

Single track through Ballincollig is unfortunate i think, and also limits the ease of extending. Original indicative route was to go towards Ovens. If we had balls and long term vision I’d be protecting a route all the way to Macroom.

Interesting to see the P&R at Clashduv/Kilumney Link East Roundabout. There’s already serious congestion at the Ballincollig east exit from the N40, there are long term plans to upgrade but they’ll probably need to be done before this if you want things to work.

I think the article has copied the main bits, but they have a site here with all the info: https://www.luascork.ie/

One thing I had been wondering was how they’d get from Mahon to Páirc Uí Chaoimh. There aren’t really any roads between Skehard Road and the Páirc that would be easy to run a Luas down. Looks like the plan is to piss people off on Churchyard Lane.

      >The EPR then crosses Blackrock Road and on to Churchyard Lane where a portion of land-take will be required to facilitate the alignment. This includes the demolition of the Venue Bar, a well-known Ballintemple landmark. It is proposed to reinstate this corner site as part of the works, in keeping with the Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) status of the village.

They should really concentrate on expanding the Dublin network before focusing on another location

      Long time overdue.

Cork city car infrastructure is the most complicated and confusing I have seen in Ireland. Even worse than Dublin City center. With insane congestion.

Article never even mentions the year it is due to start construction, this will be kicked into the long grass
