USA has HDI = 0.927 and is a highly developed country with one of the best higher education systems in the world. Why are they going backwards?

Australian universities got the same email, with demands that they start following US anti-DEI laws…

Well what is on these idealogical questionnaire and what is the data used for? Just because something is European doesn’t make it superior

We will work with US states who want to exchange with us. We don’t need their federal seal

Someone should post these questionnaires online, so the whole world can marvel at USA’s descent into shamelessness.

Sorry, why can’t Portugal fund its own university programs?

The answer should be “Ok, whatever, you can collect your crap tomorrow 8am”.

    9. “The United States Government has cancelled a programme at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) that would have allowed it to have a space for promoting American culture on its premises, with the Portuguese institution being questioned about links to terrorist organisations.”

      ———

      Is that a joke?

      ———

“The president of IST, Rogério Colaço, told Lusa that he received the communication of the cancellation on the 5 March, of the programme called “American Corners” with “immediate effect”, and, on the same day, an inquiry with “quite inappropriate questions” about whether IST collaborated or not, or was cited or not in accusations or investigations involving terrorist associations, cartels, human and drug trafficking, or organisations that promote mass immigration.

“Técnico responded that it would not respond to the questionnaire because it was not appropriate for a public higher education institution to be subject to public and legal scrutiny in a democratic country that is a member of the European Union”, stated Rogério Colaço.”

      ———-

I would have responded with a short letter that starts with “fuck” and ends with “you”.

I guess they can now use that space to share information about the *new* American culture.

OK, dump their crap onto the curb and let them know they can pick it up if it’s still there, not that anyone except street pigeons would want it.

If the arrogance of this is difficult for you to get your head around, the piece you are missing is that for many of the people championing our national swan dive directly into hell, they *genuinely believe* that what they are doing is bringing a dangerously unchecked liberal madness in line with reality.

They don’t think “you need to start obeying our standards, because they’re ours.” They think “obviously, you’re willing to cooperate with us in ensuring we’re all finally doing the objectively right thing, as is clearly reflected by reality.” The expectation is that the silent, oppressed majority of the poor, miserable people everywhere else in the world, will be *grateful* to throw off the shackles of Left-Wing Madness and finally begin doing things the way everyone actually wants to be default.

So this cancellation, for many, is not about spite that Portugal is not falling in line. It’s “they’re more brainwashed than we thought, we’d better finish taking our own nation back before we try to help them.” And that is *so much scarier.*

the US admin is an utter disgrace at the moment; I hope something changes soon for the better

I did not realize the reach the US government has had globally until these “ideological” demands on institutions outside of the US. It might be better if the US has a little less influence even if there is a loss of funding.
