“If you don’t give us tax breaks and longer drug patent times, we might invest in a flaming shithole run by an amphetamine-addled, petty king!”

“Nah. You spent 50 years investing in Europe under the current conditions. Nice try though, 5/10 for effort.”

Trying to get us to back down, the only way Trump’s tariffs work if governments decide not to respond back with any tariffs. Don’t get the mentality off people that want to back down to trump , is it just Americans on this sub or Irish with a strange mentality of being pro American always ?

Let them go , we can make generic versions with all their equipment. Thank you for the free stuff.

The US government should be ignored. Whatever deal you make today will fall apart tomorrow. Hopefully, the back lash at the mid-terms will put a stop to this madness.

The anti US sentiment will take years to mend, though.
As for pharma moving. I wouldn’t waste much time thinking about that. There isn’t the workforce in the States. The cost for them, as well as the time it would take to set up, wouldn’t get past share holders imo.

Tbh Ireland should be whatever they want, the amount of job losses would be devastating

Always a risk when your economy is propped up by being a tax haven. Ireland can be an attractive country for investment without simply allowing corpos to pay next to no tax.

They’re just using it as an opportunity to whack the EU and hike drugs prices in European public health systems basically.

      > The chief executives of several pharmaceutical giants based in Ireland, such as Pfizer, Eli Lilly, and MSD, said there was a risk of an “exodus” of future investment as the industry redirected funds away from the EU and towards “the US or other fast-growing economies”.

A fast growing economy? Have these guys looked at the stock market recently?

You would be insane to invest in the US right now when you have absolutely no idea what’s going to happen or when the loonies might decide that suddenly you’re the enemy. At least the EU can offer grown ups and policy certainty

Great writing. Pharma , pharma, pharma, …. quotes tarrifs paid by dairy company.

Of course Pharma is gonna try and make hay out of the situation. They do it all the time.

House prices will never drop ever again. They can’t move our factories, blah blah. That is until they do.

There’s no production set up in the country and not enough skilled workers in the country.

The company profits will remain the same as the American people will foot the bill

US is already the world’s largest manufacturer of pharmaceuticals.
This is just a gambit by big pharma here to get more favourable conditions maybe even a little bit of good old fashioned extortion.
Yes they may hold on further Capex in Europe for a year… hell every business on the planet is probably going to avoid everything but absolutely neccessary capex till the chaos wrought by mango mussolini calms down.

After the industrial revolution the factory owners threatened to throw their companies into the sea if their taxes were raised.

Companies need to be reminded the world doesn’t spin for their profits
