Tesla sales are tanking in Europe?

Well, when your CEO flirts with far-right politicians and Donald Trump, donโ€™t be surprised if the continent that invented social democracy ghosts those overpriced go-karts

i like the german numbers and that right after gigafactory berlin started to produce ๐Ÿ˜€

It should be noted that in the UK, registrations != sales. Tesla has in the past unloaded a ship full of cars and immediately registered them all.

Scrap metal. Why buy Teslas when we have Polestar, VW, Stellantis, Renault, etc?

    5. sparksAndFizzles on

There are odd distortions because of how right hand drive models ship. Similar issue in Ireland. The trends will emerge in a few months.

For comparison they fell by 9% in the US.

      15% decline specifically in California.

    7. probdying82 on

Itโ€™s wayyyyy worse than this. Tesla is the one reporting and they lie all the time

In Germany the number prolly means, of 20 sold EVs quarterly, 10 were a Tesla and now its only 14 sold per quarter. ๐Ÿ™‚

    9. I just LOVE the charts with no reference points, i.e. this particular one essentially assumes that the SIZE of DK = DE = UK.

Our tax rules in the UK changed in April, any EVs registered after this date have an increase in both VED (commonly referred to as road tax) and the expensive car supplement if they are over ยฃ40k in value

It may well be that this was Tesla pre-registering vehicles in Q1 (before Q2 starts in April after the tax changes) so they can then later sell them without these taxes applied

They have been known to register vehicles before they are sold in the past, as a registration just allocates a license plate and is not tied directly to a sale

My 2019 Tesla model 3 is the best car I ever owned. It is a little sad I won’t be buying another one, but it is what it is.

Registrations do not equal sales in the UK. They will be registered and rotting in forecourts.

Also bear in mind, our numbers of tesla sales were already around half compared to other large EU countries.

Think the figures from February were around 1800 in 2024, then 1500 in 2025. Compared to Germany who had around 3500 sales in Feb 2024

Deshalb sind die auch nicht in der EU…., weil die am Leben vorbeilaufen.

That is why they are not in the EU…., because they passing by Life.

Freely quoted from a German meme.

Good. I used to be neutral towards Elon but his recent comments about Ukraine are despicable.

    16. OkSituation181 on

Also worth noting that X also had a 66% revenue drop from the UK so we’re doing our part in other ways.

    17. Rasples1998 on

PSA that cars imported to the UK are registered on arrival; not registered at sale. It means that Teslas might be arriving in the country but doesn’t mean people are buying them.

    18. Previous_Fortune9600 on

      Great but not enough.
Hopefully these numbers will go up

There was another report in Reddit saying UK Tesla sales were down 15% or something like that. Are they both trueโ€ฆโ€ฆ?

    20. Do car lots count as registered in the UK?

Honestly every time I see a Tesla I instantly give a judging look without realising.

    21. Tosse101 on

In Denmark, going by the registrations so far in April – up to the 13th – Tesla sold 47 of the 4381 EVs.

That leaves them a whopping 1.1% marketshare, down from 7.8% last year and 23%-something in 2023.

      VAG is about 30% total.

    22. Valoneria on

Still see waaaayy too many new Model Y Junipers here in Denmark. Fucking fascist apologists.

    23. “All across a Europe ” data showing only some European countries

    24. No-Donkey2434 on

      This is good..
Tesla canโ€™t sell their cars in SEA as it would be out of reach of majority of the population..
Tesla canโ€™t sell in China (some tariffs and BYD)
So, the major markets for Tesla were North America, Europe and the wealthy region of Middle East.
They are losing badly in majority of their markets now..

    25. AllyMcfeels on

Anyone who pays for Statista data is a fool. Much of the data is incorrect. For example, the UK data. Statista is a very poor source of data.

    26. GrannyFlash7373 on

Wunderbar!!!!!! Put Musk out of the car business in Europe!!!!

    27. Perhaps worth pointing out that it looks like Tesla registrations were still lower in the UK than Germany despite the comparative change.

    28. Worth pointing out in addition to what others have said about registrations because the UK is left hand drive our cars are made and delivered in batches. So they would have produced and shipped these based on projected sales.

    29. Large-Example1665 on

Sales volume in each market would be useful. I have been in Italy recently and didn’t notice many Teslas

    30. Panzermensch911 on

Plus with the ID.5 and ID.7 from Volkswagen Tesla has some real competition on the German market. VW has done a lot of wrong in the past with their EVs, but their current line-up is really good.
