Could have done without… But reporters said it would be for a European meeting, so playing host is something we kind of manage

    2. Visible_Bat2176 on

art of the deal, italian version :)) the truth is we need to buy enough time to stand a chance…

I feel like watching a B series movie where an old lunatic man plays the “grandpa” role with a younger clever woman

Good that Italy is doing some realpolitik, but we don’t expect anything of value out of these meetings.

Europe , unwillingly, paid/still pays a huge price for the United States of Israel’s adventures in the destabilization of Middle East in the last 20 years by being massively burdened by refugees and immingrants. The USI has led a silent, hybrid war against Europe for decades now

Not surprising, they belong to the same global party!

(copy from my comment in another thread, because this is important) People need to be aware about global political networks like IDU, and stop looking at the world as a country vs. country. The rot is everywhere, in every country, the rot of Transnational Organized Crime, which is heavily heavily connected to politics, more obvious now than ever before.

IDU members include USA Republicans and their leader Trump, who has been a central figure in money laundering for various criminals gangs for decades; Israel’s Netanyahu, who has arrest warrant by International Criminal Court in over 100 countries for his war crimes; Putin puppet Viktor Orban and his Fidez; Brazil’s Bolsonaro, who is facing prison time for murder plot of his opponent; the dude in South Korea who tried to overthrow the government; the party in Serbia planning to go to Putin’s parade, the same one that is accused of using sonic weapons against peaceful protestors; India’s Modi, investigated for his involvement with a criminal gang murdering his opponents in Canada; and various other parties whose leaders have been convicted of corruption and crimes like Nicolas Sarkozy in France etc. So it’s not a surprise Italy’s Meloni is sucking up to Trump when they literally belong to the same global parent party…

In the last 5 years there’s been 4(!) attempts to overthrow the government of a democratic country by IDU members: USA, Brazil, Canada, South Korea.

IDU creator and chairman Stephen Harper is a former Reform Party member, whose main target was to eliminate universal health insurance for citizens (read: healthcare), and celebrated victory when they managed to block other Canadians from putting healthcare as a right in their constitution (in a speech to USA Republicans lmao). Various connections to white supremacy etc. IDU openly states that its members help each other get power, and every time any of them actually get power in a country, they chop all assets to pieces and sell them to foreign countries. Especially healthcare. They want the same money making machine everywhere as in USA, to rip off normal working people. It’s good to remember that Putin’s Russia started with the privatization of whatever was left of the Soviet Union that was to be inherited by the people of Russia, and that today we call the people responsible for it as oligarchs. We say that the Russian people were robbed of their inheritance, which they were, but still in the west we call the same process ‘privatization’, even when it slowly leads to the same damn thing. Here in Finland they’re cutting from healthcare and education because of debt, while also, surprise surprise, planning to ease taxes for big companies and rich people, because ‘it helps the economy’ and ‘trickle down’ etc etc.

IDU celebrates people like Thatcher and Reagan, and their politicians are always warmly welcomed and celebrated by Putin, Trump & co, while others are scorned.

Of course, not everyone in IDU is criminal or has criminal connections, just like not everyone not-in-IDU is devoid of corruption and crime, but that’s one hell of a web of western self-destruction spanning decades back.

*edit: Oh yeah, and the Heritage Foundation (Project 2025), is also heavily connected to IDU

She surrounds herself with the worst. Moreover, real decisions in the White House are made by Putin. Nothing good can come out of this.

    8. I hope mafia is ready to say hello to this motherfu- …I mean, unlettered character.

    9. Tricky-Union4827 on

      Makes sense he likes Italy.

Italy and Russia have equal sized economy.

So that’s about the size Trump can handle.

    10. cervaro67 on

Meloni isn’t dumb, despite her questionable party leanings.

She sensibly set a fixed tax threshold for the rich industrialists to keep them investing in Italy, and it appears to have paid off last I read.

Unlike Trump who is shredding the US evoking!

    11. Most-Friend4181 on

They are happy, italians are traitors to Europe… remember their role in 2ndWW

    12. I am more worried about her being ready to buy more american weapons/liquid gas and invest around 10 billions in America. It would be the equivalent of pissing on our economy and setting it on fire

I have no clue why some people still insist this is a victory when even Silvio “Let’s go to Iraq” Berlusconi showed more diplomatic indipendence

    13. g_spaitz on

      Trump makes me vomit.

I was also a strong opponent of Meloni and I’ll always be against fascists, and she’s totally one, but I don’t think as a PM she’s doing as bad as I thought she would do.

    14. Troubled202 on

It’s interesting that she would want a convicted criminal, sex assaulter to visit. It says a lot more about her than him. Nothing good…

    15. Zaknafein-dour_den on

I can not believe people believe that all europe will say fuck off the usa and begin go rule the world. You will see everybody will try to find common ground with trump. Even china. Because usa is so strong you can not neglect them in a moment.

    16. I’m in the US, and whatever this looks like to you guys, to me, it looks like a smart move to send some blonde-haired right-winger to soften Trump up. He’s not a rational dude. Whatever chance of a good tariff deal you had just got better because Trump likes this kind of chick.

    17. StationImmediate530 on

She did well. Trump seems to like her better than other EU leaders. Keeps the door open

    18. Embarrassed af. I really hope that some day the EU could “commissariare” our nation so we could have some sort of decent administration.

    19. informaticRaptor on

In short, unhappy, then again, I didn’t want her to lead Italy.
If only the people I voted for would do any actual opposition.

    20. LeonardoX1996 on

I feel ashamed, Trump said “they’re coming to kiss my butt” and she was first in line to do that

    21. hard-scaling on

I feel great about this if the outcome is that Italy will increase their measly defence budget of 1.4% gdp.

    22. I don’t like Meloni and what she stands for, but I think she’s being smart in this case.

Burning all bridges between EU and US benefits neither. Trump likes her and she’s making use of that to keep some semblance of diplomatic talks open. There’s no point in her going to the White House and saying for the hundredth time that Putin is the aggressor, that the tariffs are stupid, etc. as that has accomplished nothing so far. Trump won’t admit he’s wrong, ever.

Either these talks do nothing, which is likely, or Trump realizes he has some ally in Europe and decides to soften his approach towards the Union in order to keep it. In any case it can’t make things worse, so it’s worth trying.

    23. grafknives on

      I don’t know how I feel

As I am not sure if I can trust Meloni to be European, or rather treat her as right wing nut job.

    24. leaflock7 on

I hope Meloni will be able to strike a deal with Trump and give the middle finger to Ursula

    25. Such_Mud_4124 on

The antichrist comes from Rome. I guess Trump’s gonna go see his father.

    26. Beraldino1838 on

I’m not a Meloni fan but I find great that she had the balls to openly say that Russia is responsible for the war because they invaded Ukraine and also that she suggested that Trump meets EU representatives in Rome.
