I personally found it already questionable why the US somehow has become the negotiating party for a peace deal in Ukraine especially not when they never included Ukraine in any of the talks.

This was always the plan. Anyone who thought there was ever a chance at a deal is just naive.
Putin wants all of Ukraine. He will never accept a deal that doesn’t completely disable Ukrainian defense. He will never accept outside peacekeepers.
This is because Europe isn’t playing ball. The plan was always to cut off all support for Ukraine and force them into an unconditional surrender to Russia. But Europe told Trump to fuck off. This is coming out after the Trump – Meloni meeting. Meloni is, on paper, a right wing ally of Trump and Italy is the only European country big enough to matter that has a Trump friendly government. Italy has also been a pretty staunch supporter of Ukraine from the beginning. My hunch is Trump told her to cut off aid, she told him no, and Trumps team of sycophants finally realized Europe’s not going to sell out Ukraine.
