Serbia. You can’t even imagine what kind of disinformation much of what is pro-Russian crap is being published by government tabloids, even worse than media in Putin’s Russia. Old and people over 40 who don’t use the internet for information are susceptible to fall for this misleading informations and they even believe the most incredible things and would even argue with their family members just to prove something.

    3. This is not an easy question – it might as well be Germany or France. Heck, most likely number one city might be Londongrad. Russians are infiltrating left and right, but that does not necessarily mean they are a threat. All pro Putin and pro war russians are a threat, but not all russians are like that.

Perhaps we should discuss not which country is the most exposed, but where russian propaganda has been the most successful in infiltrating everyday people’s lives.

Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia are great examples of how can russia influence other countries. But, to be honest, my own country Lithuania just a few years ago was heavily dependent on russia – gas, electricity, sphere of influence, etc. But we managed to resist, cleanse our economic and political lives of russian poison and now stand as one of the most prominent hawks. But it would be wrong to assume we are not exposed. We are, and quite signficantly. The real issue is how well do we resist.

Not necessarely an agent, but they are holding him with something. The ’90s were a mess of course in Hungary, no doubt it was easy to collect juicy intel on a young politician coming up in popularity. And he proved himself since, was always up to no-good shit stuff, so not surprised at all.But defo on Kremlins paylist.

An interesting thing i have experienced with coworkers is that you can be pro EU and European values and still believe TikTok news and think that Zelensky pocketed 100mil.

The cognitive dissonance of people who have not grown up with “dont believe everything on the internet” is hillarious at one hand and sad at the other because i always need to avoid the urge to bang my head against the wall when im pulled into these convos in a professional setting.

      I think that:
      – All of the Major “Pro-Ukraine Players” (like UK or France)

-Countries bordering Russia (Poland, The Baltics, Finland, Moldavia and maybe Romania)

      – And of course The “Patriots” (Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia)

P.S: Russian Disinformation doesn’t mean “Pro Russia” it can also mean “Anti EU” or “Anti Ukraine”

If you want to see how a country without Russian influence looks like, just look at Croatia. We don’t have a single media outlet that spreads Russian propaganda. Not a single one. We also don’t have any political parties that supports Russia; even the far-right DP doesn’t support Russia.

Then, if you want to see how country with strong Russian influence looks like, look no further than Serbia. Their media landscape is pretty much all made of tabloids which spread fake news, portray Russia as perfect country. All Russian “media” has a presence in Serbia in one form or another. Even politics isn’t free of Russia—they literally have Russian political party (Ruska stranka).

This is why we call Serbia as mini-Russia. In Serbia, there’s an authoritarian regime that moves closer and closer to dictatorship like in Russia every single day. Media is controlled by state actors, free media doesn’t exist (except N1). Elections are nor free or fair and rigged in favor of Vučić and his SNS party. Jobs in largest private companies as well as state ones are reserved for SNS people and employees are forced to go to Vučić’s gatherings, or otherwise they are fired. The list wouldn’t be complete without “batinaši”; which are Vučić’s private gang that beat people on the street and ran them over with cars without any consequences for their actions.

It’s mind blowing to me as a Croat to see how Serbia went so downhill in a decade.

      Some key points:

“Specifically, the top three countries most disproportionately targeted by Pravda disinformation are Moldova, Latvia and Estonia, with Serbia and Armenia making it into the top five.

Lithuania, Georgia, Slovakia, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic round out the top 10.

The proximity of these countries to each other and the statistics show that there’s a sophisticated effort to spread disinformation in regions of strategic value to the Kremlin, according to the study.

“Six of the top ten targeted nations host critical energy infrastructure connecting European markets with Russian supplies, indicating a potential strategic interest in regions with energy security significance,” it said

The Pravda network is a set of websites created for the dissemination of pro-Russia propaganda.

Also known as Portal Combat, the Pravda network activities have been disseminating fake news in different European languages for the past 17 years, with its first ecosystem domains and publications tracked in 2013″

not counting the countries of the former soviet bloc that could have a “natural” problem of russian propaganda, in my opinion the european country most conditioned by propaganda is italy. literally from left to right the pro-putin have lined up relentlessly over the years, asking in the last Conte government for the end of sanctions and the recognition of crimea as russian. Meloni has many beautiful words for ukraine, but few facts.

Czech Rep, Slovakia too I suppose. Loads of groups, dodgy websites(Czech Free Press!) and stuff spouting conspiracy theory about Ukraine, Covid or Soros ruling the world.

Noticeable one was when Eurovision was held in my home city in the UK on behalf of Ukraine the other year, an FB food group I follow which normally got around 30-50 likes a post and maybe 5-10 comments suddenly getting swarmed with hundreds of angry faces and bizarre comments in poor English or their native language, mostly middle aged Czechs and Bulgarians for some reason, going by their profiles. Their crime was reposting a photo of the local Lamb banana statue in Ukrainian colours, rants about gay Ukrainian nazis, reminded me of this back from when the Simpsons was good: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvPMXqONe0Q](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvPMXqONe0Q)

Actually all European countries are targeted constantly and it did not start this year, not even this decade. Some propaganda attacks established themselves as absolute truths in the EU well before it became a hot topic.

For instance the online “news” about genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have been ruled by Russian actors for a long time now, there are even scientific publications detailing their effect on public perception of reality.

      Dorius, S. F., & Lawrence-Dill, C. J. (2018). Sowing the seeds of skepticism: Russian state news and anti-GMO sentiment. *GM Crops & Food*, *9*(2), 53-58. [Link](https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/21645698.2018.1454192)

Ryan, C. D., Schaul, A. J., Butner, R., & Swarthout, J. T. (2020). Monetizing disinformation in the attention economy: the case of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). *European Management Journal*, *38*(1), 7-18. [Link](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0263237319301446)

This propaganda attack reached its goal, GMOs were de facto banned in the EU and this issue and the very extreme feelings it generates in citizens contributed immensely to the souring of the EU-US relationship. It is surprising how it came as a shock when the current US administration imposed taxes on cars, a main export product on European manufacturers, when we have been preventing the export of whole sectors of the US economy for decades now.

This is how Russian propaganda works, they build conflicts among actors, by attenuating extremist voices on both sides by normalising them.

Edit: If you check out the Foreign trade barriers document that was [published ](https://ustr.gov/sites/default/files/files/Press/Reports/2025NTE.pdf)recently, they have dedicated a whole chapter to the problem on page 139.:

I would say Turkey with giving an example. Russia spread that Turkey was selling ISIS petroleum after Turkey shot their plane. Even biggest media outlets made news about it in western countries. After several years Russian officials appoligised for this propaganda campaign verbally but we are still meeting people in western countries believing it. Brexit and Turkey relation, ultra nationalists against Turks were all Russian campaigns.

    15. Panzermensch911 on

All of them. Vulnerable countries are probably just hit harder.

The pro-Putin propaganda is quite well-spread here in Bulgaria, I can’t even imagine how terrible it is in counties like Hungary or Serbia.

Or we’re just flying under the radar.

Who can make an example of Russian propaganda in Italy?

    18. There’s plenty of disinformation in Bulgaria. Always showing Russia as our brothers, how only they can help us and so on. Sadly lots of people believe that

    19. Europe has been colonised by US media for a generation. So bad a teacher in Cork (Ireland) complained about all his (rural) school children speaking with American accents.
This was all before the revolution that is US controlled social media.
But hey, lets talk about Russia, a poor countrt with a mediocre media machine. Dont look at the building burning down lads, look at the tiny fire in the other direction.
I really despair for Europe every time I come on this sub. Then I remember that this sub is totally out of touch with real Europe

Bulgaria. More and more brainwashed into forgetting what Russia did to them after WW2. They can’t even vote on a declaration to support Ukraine.

    21. Ok_Solid_3668 on

By the amount of people voting for far-right parties, I’d say most of Europe.
