Probably something critical that shouldn’t fall off
Was that the primary buffer panel?!
One of 3 possibilities (my *opinion*), either it broke, is serving as testbed for space based weapons or it already is a functional space based weapon.

No one should be surprised that France is the one observing and reporting. Or better said, the U.S. hasn’t mentioned this.
Russian satellite made by Boeing. Parts randomly fall off. Works as designed.
Space drones. They jet over to be in the path of all the critical Western satellites and then go bang and scatter lots of bits of metal around. Goodbye any Western satellite communications or surveillance.
Or just the front fell off.
