According to AFAD’s statement, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.2. It struck at 12:49 PM and had a depth of 6.92 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt across all cities along the coast of the Marmara Sea. Following the tremor, large numbers of people took to the streets in many districts of Istanbul.

**Magnitude 4.4 aftershock**
At 12:51 PM, a 4.4 magnitude aftershock occurred in Istanbul.
According to AFAD, the epicenter was in the Marmara Sea, off the coast of Istanbul’s Büyükçekmece district.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers and was also felt in neighboring provinces.

**Initial quake was off the coast of Silivri**
At 12:13 PM, a 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck in the Marmara Sea.
According to AFAD, the epicenter was off the coast of Istanbul’s Silivri district, and the quake occurred at a depth of 6.99 kilometers.
After the initial tremor, Professor Dr. Naci Görür posted on X:
“Around noon, a magnitude 4.0 quake occurred off the coast of Silivri. The quake took place in the Kumburgaz Fault zone. This fault is locked and is accumulating energy, occasionally triggering small quakes. Its location is significant—we need to stay alert. The Kumburgaz Fault is under pressure.”

I work on 16 floor office, the building was shaken violently, but I was not afraid at all for my wellbeing, I called immediately my wife to know she and the kids are fine, I felt immense relief. An experience you won’t wish on anyone.
