Samo is kind of like the original slavic influencer. Some people think of him as a national hero who united tribes with nothing but sheer will and a cool beard. Others, though, are like “Samo… who??” He’s definitely not in the Czech hall of fame next to Havel, but if there were a slavic warrior category, he’d probably be up there with a few thumbs ups.
He is somehow outside of national history – it started with mythical brothers Czech, Lech and Rus, no Samo in these legends 🙂
We learn about him and his state in school as about first state entity in this place. Big Moravia is more “popular” our “our” than Samo who was not even Slav..

Not really, it is just important “ancient” figure from Czech history book
If you want national hero/symbol, you should better try people like Charles IV, Ottokar II of Bohemia, Wenceslaus I, Jan Žižka, Jan Hus …etc
