Ekrem Imamoglu, the mayor of Istanbul, was detained on corruption charges and is widely seen as a political challenger to President Erdogan, with his arrest sparking protests and concerns over democratic processes in Turkey. His background includes a degree in Business Administration from Istanbul University and a career in business management before entering politics.

His frightened opponent, Erdoğan, lives in one of the most luxurious palaces while sending Imamoglu to jail because he is more popular than him and could be the next president.

      How unfair this country is.

Reminder that this right-wing hero posted [harsh criticism of the Recognition of the Armenian genocide on the day of remembrance of said Genocide](https://x.com/ekrem_imamoglu/status/1386006768770326529) (stay classy)

Right-wingers are all the same wether it’s Imamoglu or Erdogan to me.

Edit: As I see the Turkish nationalists have already found this post haha ^^

Hard to know if it’s correct. Erdogan renovated his cell into an apartment before moving in. But it’s better for PR if you don’t overdo it it needs to look shabby. I can’t find photos of Erdogan’s prison cell on Google. I guess there are none?

They put him in jail. They put his lawyer in jail. Now they’re putting his lawyer’s lawyer in jail. Democracy, btw.

Prison must be really boring if you’re reading a blank A4.

Another POS Turkish politician promising further aggression on Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean and genocide denier. May he rot in jail

All dictators behave in a similar way: first ban opponent from elections, ban opposing party members, then imprison him and his lawyers. I’m confident that Erdoğan will soon start thinking about “accident” for Imamoglu, if he isn’t preparing it already. It will be health complications, obviously. Time is of the essence here.

Terrorist Erdogan imprisoned 3 political party leaders, many students, activists… But somehow he can still find fund & political support from the EU. The old EU would already crash Turkeys economy just because of these problems.

Fuck the irresponsible, dishonourable the EU which doesn’t uphold it’s values.

Long story short he isn’t in an awful max security cell for obvious reasons but this absolutely doesn’t change how fucked up the situation is. According to another opposition leader jailed in the same prison the out times are the main issue.
