Is parenting just not a thing anymore?

I’m in my mid 30s now. The tobacco lobby basically got defeated when I was a teenager. Hardly anyone smoked and if they did, they were largely seen as having s*** for brains. Smoking ban came in and the advertising disappeared to the point you might only see it while travelling or watching formula 1 and even then it faded away. But most importantly, it was bet into us that smoking just shouldn’t be done. Parents, teachers, football managers, everyone hammered it into us.

How did the tobacco lobby just come back to the point where not only can they advertise vaping and pouches like this but actively target them to kids? And why has parenting just disappeared?

I’m nearly 40 years of age. 100kg. Smoke occasionally (stags, music festivals, etc)

My brother gave me one of these things, the really strong ones, in the pub a while back, and I puked my ring!

Teenagers are picking up this habit of using nicopods to replace vaping.

      >Brighton-based influencer Ailbhe Lower, better known as Mr Bruv to his 425,000 TikTok followers, is rarely seen without a packet of Velo [a brand] nicotine pouches in hand. A neon-green cylinder of spearmint-flavoured pouches and pints of Guinness are both hallmarks of the 23-year-old’s viral “bruv dates” with girlfriend and fellow influencer Faye Greenwood.

There’s a whole world out there going on that, I’m happy to say, I’m completely unaware of.

      I think they’re gross.

At the same time, I put down my academic failures to being high on sugar.

Similar effect as Cadet cola and 25p donuts I guess.

I am once again, begging the government to just at the very least, try googling how other countries handle these things before hitting the big red ban button

I’m not really sure what the problem is. Kids are using less tobacco and these pouches seem as dangerous as Nicorette gum or a nicotine patch.

World seems a lot better for kids these days (phones and cyber bullying being the obvious exceptions).

Born in 1998. Born too late to smoke, born too early to vape. What a time to be alive.
