You’d really have to hate kids to be fucking paying that

    2. qwerty_1965 on

This is why a severe economic crisis every decade would not such a bad thing.

    3. Benbenbennnnnnn on

Can you ban people by race or is age the only acceptable one nowadays?

    4. If you’re rearing kids in this country, there’s little likelihood that you’ve got the disposable income for €15 coffee anyway.

I look forward to the article in a few months when they go out of business.

Headline is a bit misleading. This is The Old Barracks coffee roastery/café in Birdhill, Co. Tipperary. Probably my favourite spot for a coffee. The prices range from €5 to €15 for a coffee.

They have gotten a lot of backlash for banning children from the premises. But it’s because they are roasting coffee in the café area and it is not really safe for children to be running around the equipment due to burn risks, etc.

Lol good riddance, let the miserable shites enjoy each others company

I’d nearly take up drinking coffee, I’ve to go to pubs to avoid other people’s kids at the moment, even then it’s not certain.

This actually isn’t a new concept from Alan, it’s been open a few years. Every now and then an article triggered for it. He has been on the Irish coffee scene for a long time lending consultancy to many coffee houses across the country- from the thought of owning a business to being open and functioning.

People with kids are so triggered by things like this it’s s so strange, leave them be, it’s their business to do what they want! There are plenty of spaces people can bring their kids, it shouldn’t be such an outrage that someone runs a space that’s adult only..

    11. slevinonion on

Might be unpopular but anyone who promotes child free places or hates kids around is an asshole.

    12. CuileannA on

I can’t imagine many kids enjoying going to a café, I wouldn’t create that kind of a situation for myself or my kids, trying to keep them entertained while drinking over priced coffee doesn’t seem like a great idea…

    13. GhettoBish on

Guys hear me out.. one day a week shopping that doesn’t allow kids. Just for working people that want to shop in peace!!!

    14. SoftDrinkReddit on

so when you buy a coffee there they hand you a Tenner note right ?

    15. i_will_yeahh on

As someone with a baby, I would still go to a child free establishment. I’d never pay 15 euro for a coffee though. If me and the husband go on holidays without the baby, we’ll definitely be going to an adults only hotel.

I thought age was a protected characteristic under the equal status act? Does this mean a shop can ban old people if they feel like it?

    17. OneMagicBadger on

A bargain. I imagine certain people with kids will get all angry about it. (People whose entire personality life and hobbies becomes their kids)

    18. Scary-Side-7512 on

Would pay over the odds to avoid other peoples kids.

    19. Electrical_Wafer26 on

Just go of a Tuesday afternoon and very unlikely you’ll have kids there anyway.

    20. smashedspuds on

Omg if only we had once of these in Dublin I’d go straight there after Bambino

    21. Mysterious_Half1890 on

Wouldn’t go anywhere to eat that allows dogs to be honest even kids don’t like there bits every chance they get!! Gross

    22. Junior-Protection-26 on

It’s behind Matt the Threshers restaurant in Birdhill. Nice spot for food too.

Went for coffee there once. Paid about 5 for their ordinary stuff. Inside is very comfortable with a big selection of expensive wine.

On a clear day you have views down to the Shannon.

    23. Illustrious_While661 on

From the headline this guy looks like a massive wanker.

    24. harry_dubois on

I find the new “child free” identity, fairly or unfairly, rings my “American imported culture war nonsense” alarm. Literally who cares? Have kids, don’t have kids – completely personal choice and and entirely irrelevant to everyone who isn’t you.

    25. AnCearrbhach on

I’ll be downvoted for this but most children behave better and certainly have better impulse control than most dogs so doesn’t make much sense.

In saying that I’ve been to this place and the coffee is delicious I must say, nice coffee to be had for 5 euro which is pretty standard.

    26. Future_Jackfruit5360 on

I never understand the dislike for “child free” places.

If you don’t like it, go elsewhere. There are loads of places that will take children.

If he thinks it’s a viable business model, let him try it. He’ll find out soon if it was a good idea or not. I honestly think some people would prefer this so it’s good that it’s an option.

I don’t think there would be any criticism if it was a child free pub for example.

    27. Candlegoat on

People complaining about the €15, this is like looking at a menu and getting upset about the price of the most expensive drink, when you can always just get literally any of the affordable options.

    28. Lopsided-Code9707 on

The Times is a UK publication. The UK coined the expression “children should be seen and not heard.” A UK media outlet with an “oirish” section will always see everything from a UK perspective. It’s like those freesheets for “ex-pats” in Spain and France. Bottom line: nothing to see here. This is not the UK.

    29. Why do so many people get triggered by it?

Its like complaining about ‘speaking in library’ being banned.

Some people wants some quiet chat over coffee, without screeching of rabid children raised on ‘stress free’ diet.

Plenty of cafes everywhere. Get over it.
