I sometimes venture on to r/conservative and there was a post recently where the top comments were calling for longer maternity leave and payments for parents, including tax credits etc. It was absolutely wild to see them looking for basic rights in we have in Europe

This the fabled American Innovation we hear so much about. Between “relaxing time abroad away from work” and “computers that can turn you into cartoon characters and action figures” they are absolutely slaying it at the moment.
It’s more than vacation.
It could be 6 months or more. That’s why they call macro retirement.

Soon they will be wanting the liberal communist rot of *paid* vacations!

Yea, we’re bad at that.
Hearing my friends in Canada and France talk about the time they can take has made me feel honestly angry before.
Buddy of mine was burnt out, so he took 6 weeks give or take (don’t recall the exact amount of time, other than that it was an impossible amount of time by US Standards) and he walked Le chemin de Saint Jacques. he said it the experience revived his spirit a lot.
My friends from Quebec once did 2 months in the summer in Vietnam.
Really pisses me off that I’m maxing out acceptable time off at 1.5-2 weeks.

tbf, in the article they are talking about a multiple-months in-between-jobs-sabbatical, and not a short vacation.

And in today’s news bias: the same people who constantly complain that GenZ don’t work as hard as they did in their imaginations, have now conveniently forgotten we already have a word for ‘holiday’ so they can add some commentary about how we are living a super lavish lifestyle

Am I on a micro-vacation now? It is the weekend.

Lol, but this seems to be about much longer breaks with the main goal to develop new skills and explore the world.

American here, micro retirements don’t eliminate working until we die. The longest vacation I’ve ever been “allowed” to take at work is 2 weeks

it’s almost more sinister… they fear they have to work into their 70s so they try to get time off work when they’re younger to make it matter.
what a dystopian country.
