Say your gonna pay em 430k then listen to the outrage cut it 100k which is still insane and everybody says oh ye sure we almost paid 430k for it

James Brown the new Housing Minister sounds incompetent *at best* and has been caught out a few times now by TV/Radio presenters with his figures recently.

Housing continues not to be absolutely not a priority for FF/FG -no matter what they say. Why would Dara O Brien the last Minister jump ship, if he had experience of four years in the Housing Dept, only to hand if over to somebody to learn the ropes all over again?

Due to an unexpected increase in government employee wages new house build estimates have been dramatically reduced. A shelter ‘chieftan’ is currently being headhunted on LinkedIn.

Pay him a normal amount with exceptional bonuses for actually delivering. I’d be happy to pay the man €400k if he was actually ending the housing crisis.

That’s private sector money. No public official should be paid that kind of money

I would have no issue with a top quality candidate getting this money if they had the skills and foresight to achieve what we need. The problem with this guy is that he oversaw the greatest giveaway of the future we could have achieved in modern history.
We will never have an opportunity such as the one nama had in its grasp, but instead of thinking of the possibility to change the fundamentals of our nation, nama sold everything off the foreign investors at a fraction of the wealth it could have created.

Proposal. Anyone making over 200k on the public purse has to be listed in a public registry.

If he is supposedly the best candidate for the job why are we now looking to reduce his salary? He is on the same at NAMA so why would he look to take a pay cut for what’s going to be an incredibly difficult and challenging job. Something doesn’t add up here to me.

So this guy will be paid the guts of €400k to take the blame for the government’s housing failure.
If I was the minister for housing, or the taoiseach, is consider that good value.

    11. OfficerPeanut on

Jesus, on that money he might actually be able to afford a house!

    12. dubguy37 on

All this man is going to be is a government scapegoat. The government has zero plan on housing they didn’t like the heat Dara O Brien brought on them last time with the over inflated housing figures. So this lad is just to take the heat off sitting ministers so they don’t lose their seat . A ridiculous amount of money for a spoofer .

100k with a guaranteed non performance based Christmas bonus of 330k.

    14. IrishLad1002 on

Align his compensation to performance like the private sector. Pay him a base salary of 100k and bonuses of up to €1,000,000 more per year based on performance. If this guy can actually end the housing crisis or even improve the current situation somewhat it would be well worth it. However, as this is the public sector where performance and accountability are non existent, he wil get his full €430k as the crisis gets worse on his watch.

I’d say Robert Watt would be putting in for a pay increase because of this….”good enough for him, good enough for me…”. Pascal and that baby-faced kid might have to legislate for the increase of the SFT to 2.8m over a smaller amount of years…

    16. garcia1723 on

What’s the chances he quotes ‘won’t be solved overnight’ within the first week?

    17. MassiveHippo9472 on

I’d rather see someone paid 30k to individually pass the other 400k of tax payers money through a shredder then have to listen to this shite for how many years and see fuck all change.

    18. Galdrack on

Immensely daft idea backed by an absurd wage taken from public funds, anyone approaching the job for the money isn’t really interested in solving the issue just fattening their wallet.

    19. theaulddub1 on

Well I supposed it’s makes sense cause he can shite houses out of his arse

Tsar is a very strange title, makes me think of all things Russia, an enemy of the state. The optics on this as tone dead 🫣

Imagine the whole country was weighing in on your salary negotiation after applying and (almost) accepting a new role.

    22. Brewitsokbrew on

This is smoke and mirrors. The real story here is this is the beginning of the govt setting up a housing HSE. ie: someone to blame when things don’t work out. Someone to say “oh that’s not within the housing minister’s purview, that is the housing zsar’s remit.
