    1. The left must actually focus on interest of working class instead of woke bullshit. Far-right populists have taken traditional working class voters because the left ignores the issues of the working class and simply calls them racists, xenophobes

Historically the left has been heavily against mass immigration because it was against the interest of the working class due to influx of cheap labour driving down wages, increasing housing prices and competition for services. Todays left has made a complete 180 turn supporting mass immigration.

The left itself has a populist branch, wouldn’t it be more appropriate to instead say ” to defeat the populist right “?

    3. ce_km_r_eng on

There is no left anymore, if they want to exist, they need to rethink who they are. The whole left-right concept should be put to rest, it does not benefit anyone.

    4. Can we leave those silly mental minds like left, right, centre? I don’t think in this state of the world we can play with it. It’s time to be a pragmatist and use every tool, from left to right.
Beside with current state of social media, mainstream media there is no way of dealing with populism.

There is no left-vs-right now, there is liberal-vs-illiberal

    7. AdminEating_Dragon on

No, it must focus on reigning in social media algorithms.

When the right manages to manufacture a virtual reality which is different than actual reality, where facts don’t matter and it’s “my truth vs your truth” (instead of you know, science and fact-based data), “focusing on work” will not have a big impact because the far-right will just shout “fake news, immigrant stabbings, work only for the urban elites” or some nonsense like that, and it will work thanks to the social media ecosystem.

Control of the algorithms needs to be taken away from Elon Musk, China and other such entities who undermine liberal democracy and social progress.

But they do? and the right doesn’t.

Saying the left doesn’t focus on work it’s falling for the right wing discourse. Discourse and reality are not the same.

The biggest problem the left has is being incapable of imposing their own discourse due to lacking the support of the big economic structures that rule over most forms of media. That part… well, I don’t think the left can do much about it unless they dismantle those structures.

But but.. if they do that then the rich and the conservatives won’t like them 😢

Clean the water/food, cheapen the rents, access to health and education, and you got most of your positions there.

Europe will have to make some sensible immigration policy, but building a moat never worked.

So, basically become what it was actually about, originally?

Immigration is the only show in town if you want to win/maintain power.

Until humanity is willing to leave the 20th century behind, it won’t matter.

      they can’t sadly

these weird identity politics is all they are doing nowdays

It’s interesting how the left is mainly <30’s or people who have never had kids 🤔

    16. UPPERKEES on

What party is not focussed on work? To reverse it, which party openly advocates to ruin the economy?

The reason the left is loosing is because it doesn’t address Islamic migrants. Islam is not compatible with western values. Also not the values of the left (women’s rights, LGBTQ, secularism, etc.).

    17. od1nsrav3n on

The left just really need to cool off on the identity politics and give up on the idea that they have a divine given monopoly on virtue. For all of the issues with right wing politics at the moment, the left are no better.

If you disagree with someone on the left, you instantly become their mortal enemy, if you debate with any nuance, you are complicit in actively working to go against their belief and ideology.

There’s a reason so many people are being driven away from left leaning political ideology and it’s not the far right…

    18. whiteprivlidgeuk on

Focus on getting work , having a job … sounds about right .

    19. elmowilk on

I think people just want a good work-life balance, a decent humane job that allows you to cover your needs, enjoy your time off and save some for retirement. Your taxes should be enough for the government to pay for your health insurance, studies and other services.

In other words.. just being free to live a decent life.

Well then i don’t think it’s a stretch to also support others who want to be free and live their lives, whatever that means to *them*. People just want to live their lives.

If you’re a “lefty with a rolex”, as i heard it recently called, and care only about social issues, but god forbid you pay a bit more taxes cause you’re wealthy, then i’m sorry but you’re wrong. The opposite is also true though: caring only about paying a bit less taxes, but being offended if you see two guys kiss or whatever, well, you’re wrong too.

The truth is that all of this is used to keep us from fighting and achieve change, aka getting the filthy rich to pay their fair share and stop fucking up the world in the name of greed. And i don’t mean the lawyers or doctors or small business owners, i mean the trust fund babies, corporate c-levels, families that are filthy rich since multiple generations.

The rest is a distraction to keep us divided (and grift in the process).

    20. Mojo-man on

Indeed. I`ve been saying for years the center left workers parties somehow lost all their roots to their old core voter base of basic workers cause it was too profitable to chase. And now that we`re heading for another age where Industrialists (this time big tech) are aqueezing the worker for everything they got, people look for politicians who will fight for them like the old left did in the union days. But now there is noone leaving only the empty promises of the populist far right.

Most people kind of know its bullshit lies. But if your option is be left alone and not seen/understood or unify on a populist xenophobic moonshot, people will take the best chance they can even if it`s horrible.

    21. BoldroCop on

I’ve long been convinced that social justice is a sacred battle, but you just don’t speak about it.

If asked, you answer briefly and truthfully, but then quickly move on to work, wages, wealth distribution.

    22. Kranvargn on

Fuck the left. They can focus on their own failure and disgusting mass migration policies.

    23. Guys work means direct action and reform. By doing the work, that means ACTIVE resistance.

Forming and joining mutual aid networks, General strikes, civil disobedience, and voter turn out.

However emphasis on mutual aid and general strikes. We need the ability to shut down the economy for the wealthy without stoning ourselves. Try to use non-hierarchical decentralized decision making processes while you do these things or you will end up with a different flavor of fascism.
