That would mean that the EU enters a tarrif war with China. So thanks but no.

Finally bone spurs ego was damaged enough for him to do the right thing. He is still the worlds third biggest POS after Putin and Xi Pingpong.

    3. Considering Russia is already balancing precariously I expect this would end the war in about 2 months

    4. So this can go 2 ways, either China stops buying from Ruzzia or goes full bezorg and helps russia…

First useful example for a tariff, unfortunately that’s why it probably won’t happen

I hope EU really stops purchasing all kind of oil and gas from Russia. But to be really efficient, secondary tariffs should be out in place to avoir importing products produced from russian raw material produced elsewhere.

Actually some good news. This will starve Russia’s war machine more or less and force their hand.

I imagine the EU didn’t do this yet cuz this is technically an escalation, but, Russia showed that they don’t care about law and order for way too long

I’m not getting my hopes up. This just feels like posturing to try to scare putin to the table. Putin will say something about negotiating and the US will back out of the plan.

That might be not very effectinve considering the Iranian oil sanctio. Russia will step in to replace that supply stream.

As strong of an intrument that would be, I can’t see Orban and Fico agreeing to this, considering both of them along with a couple of other European nations still purchase oil and LNG from Russia.

Doesn’t Europe currently buy a lot of Russian oil? Also redirected with trans shipment Russian oil via India and places?

I’ll never forgive Trump for cutting off intelligence to Ukraine and trying to force them into a bogus peace deal. Ukrainian lives were lost over that.

Maybe I’m wrong but I think Trump has an admiration for dictators like Putin, (obvious I know) and was willing to take their side because of that. He could even be an asset. Ultimately, I don’t think he cared about the outcome of the war, he wanted a quick win and genuinely thought Ukraine had no chance to continue resisting.

Though now that’s it’s clear Trump can’t get a “quick win” by ending the war, he’s just lifting objections to tougher sanctions on Russia, and allowing those who support Ukraine to do what they always wanted to do. I would wager Ukraine will need to “walk on eggshells” though because this manchild changes his mind so much this could change tomorrow.

He’s ruining our country, the least he could do is not spread his damn misery around the world as much…

How is this part going to play out?

      >the proposed penalties would include a 500% tariff on imports from countries that purchase Russian oil, petroleum products, natural gas, or uranium

Does that literally mean that the U.S. will impose 500% tariffs on all imports from European countries that import gas from Russia?

    14. Neony_Dota on

Wait.. but we still buy russian oi/ gas in the EU .. are we tariffing ourselves?

    15. Lorry_Al on

So India and China. Isn’t Apple moving their factories to India?

    16. Buy_from_EU- on

Is that going to include Azerbaijan and Turkey? Because the EU is sending mixed signals here with their statements

    17. SquareJealous9388 on

So apple will have to shift iphone production again?

    18. yubnubster on

Pretty major if it happens. It would be a huge risk to both India and China to potentially cut access to both European and US markets by buying Russian oil.

    19. Mrstrawberry209 on

What makes this more “bone-crushing” as opposed to the previous sanctions?
