It’ll be the Irish way. A 10% tariff will mean a 50% increase. Then the businesses will all complain that we use Amazon.

Ha, 20 years ago we blamed every price increase on the fall out from 9/11. Then it was the Iraq war, Then it was Brexit, then it was Covid, now it’s US Tariffs.

You would think that Irish products would become cheaper if they are no longer/less sold to the US due to tariffs – looking at you Kerrygold….

Any Irish business that uses tariffs as an excuse should have to list exactly what it is that they’re paying tariffs on, publicly.
The list of things we HAVE to get from America is much shorter than the things we WANT to get from America.

I’ve never taken an economics class but may suggest something? If all those Chinese goods are not being consumed by the Yanks because of the tariffs, won’t they be redirected to other destinations like the EU and Ireland? Surely the resulting oversupply will result in lower prices for us?

We’re facing global economic uncertainty that could possibly really harm our livelihoods and the columnists are writing about how they’re worried this means they might have to to pay more for Deliveroo.

There aren’t very many consumer goods sold here that are caught up in tariffs. If retailers are blaming tariffs on price hikes on goods made in Europe and Asia they’re just lying.
There are significant price hikes in the US due to tariffs on imported goods. This isn’t the case here — trade between Europe and most places either hasn’t changed or has in some cases become easier as there’s a glut of goods and countries are trying to find alternative markets to the US.
The Euro has also strengthened, so if anything imported good from outside the EU other than the US where some EU reciprocal tariffs apply, should be getting cheaper.
