    1. There are way better cities in the netherlands then those 4.

      This list is just weird.

Amsterdam, The Hague and Dublin are for sure 100% shitholes in 2025.

Copenhagen dropped from place 1 to place 5 because of a housing shortage but Eindhoven is at place 2…

I was comming here wondering why these cities, as there are way nicer and relaxter cities to live in. But imployment conditions for internationals weigh heavy for this list. So yea this makes sence.

We have strong labour laws and good conditions and all that. Also, living here is nice.

What makes it nicer, is that we are so small, if you don’t want to or can not afford to live in one of the bigger cities, you can find many smaller cities or villages close by. Often with a good public transport connection.

So yea, i totaly get this list. As we are so small, mentioning the netherlands 4 times is kind of pointless. Especialy den heague and rotterdam are like 20 minutes appart by train. Amsterdam and those two about an hour. And i’m talking with public transport, even closer by car.

But still, yea, i rate the netherlands high in many aspects. The few places i’d consider moving to are also in this top 10.

As long as my own (much better one) isn’t on the list, I really can’t be bothered. Looking at the cities mentioned, I’m struggling to understand what they did to get on that list, since I wouldn’t want to live in any of them.

I live in Rotterdam. I do very well living in Rotterdam. Based on that comprehensive and conclusive evidence, I’d say the list is fairly accurate.

On a completely unrelated note; any reply using the words “sample size” or “anecdotal evidence” is fake and made by bot and/or people who don’t know what they’re talking about.

There’s easily over fifty places in the Netherlands that could be called city either because of it’s size or because it has historical city rights. Some great places to live:

Nijmegen, Haarlem, Amersfoort, Breda, Apeldoorn, Groningen, Maastricht, Alkmaar, etc.

So this is just a list of places people recognize. For those of us that like living in a city a decent size city with a nice historic centre, all the facilities (musea, theater, pubs, restaurants, etc.) is often preferred over a countries largest cities. Usually you will also get more house for your income. Thing is there wont be a community of fellow expats. That’s how the list was made.

Nice to see Stavanger there though.

Honestly, there are way better places to live than those four.

    12. Well, the link doesn’t say Europeans. It says expats. Meaning dutch cities score a lot of points based on the fact that most people can speak some level of English at least. After that, it’s where the jobs are. Eindhoven is where Philips is based, with ASML nearby in Veldhoven. Rotterdam there’s the harbour. The Hague all the diplomats and lobbyists. Amsterdam… Yeah, that’s probably a weed thing.

    13. Professional_Elk_489 on

Amsterdam being only 2 spots higher than Dublin makes no sense. Should be at least 20 spots higher

    14. Rotterdam 5de best bewoonbare stad in Europa? denk t niet lol

    15. Talk to an Irishman about Dublin. It’s supposedly a hellhole.

I interned in the department at the company that published these ratings.

They’re a consultancy that advise companies on the relocation allowance to give expats, so smaller cities likely won’t feature because there’s no demand from big companies to move people there or a nearby city is fine as a proxy.

There’s literally hundreds of factors going into the index including: politics, freedom of the press, crime rates, terrorism, weather and climate, pollution, access to international schools, sporting facilities, shops, cost of goods, housing, etc.

So long story short – your definition of liveability is very different to theirs. Moan all you want, the list is to determine the level of hardship an expat goes through by being relocated somewhere and the high ranking means they probably don’t get much (for all of you who moan about expats driving up prices).

Remove Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Basel and Dublin. Jesus christ nobody wants to live there

These are just the cities with the most immigrants that like to call themselves expats.
