Oggi è l’anniversario del genocidio di Dersim. Soldati turchi con bambini curdi orfani rapiti, che sono stati successivamente giustiziati dopo che questa foto è stata scattata.

One fact you should know about the Dersim Massacre: The massacre took place exactly 10 months after the rebels were neutralized. While Dersim was being bombed from the air, Seyit Rıza (the leader of the rebellion) had been dead for exactly 10 months.

The operation against Dersim began exactly 10 months after the execution of Seyit Rıza. Seyit Rıza was hanged on September 10, 1937, and the rebels were captured. The Great Dersim Operation began on June 10, 1938. Here is İnönü’s speech to the parliament a week after the execution of Seyit Rıza: Seyit Rıza was killed, the other rebels were brought to justice. The rumors about the inaccessibility of the Dersim mountains are superstitions. The army and the police have complete control of the situation. What needs to be done now is to develop the region with economic and political reforms and make it a part of modern Türkiye.

Following İnönü’s speech, Atatürk told İnönü to resign and appointed Celal Bayar instead, and work began on the Dersim operation. İnönü attributed these decisions taken by Atatürk to his illness, saying that they were a phase of the illness.

In short, one of the misconceptions about this issue is the nonsense that the massacre was to neutralize the rebels. The rebels were neutralized 10 months before the massacre; what remained was a people who did not even have weapons, and this people were massacred.

Interested to see what Turks think about it and if they acknowledge it.

      u/Thick-Knowledge-3033 Liar!

another fake genocide pic with ZERO context! you just slapped a random old photo with a dramatic caption. Where’s the proof this is even from Dersim?

No names, no dates, no location. Show me ONE verified mass grave from Dersim with kids. —you can’t. Meanwhile, actual historians call Dersim a rebellion suppression, not genocide. Before lie, work well!! Try harder. Next time, bring real evidence—not emotional fanfiction.

(Downvotes won’t make your fake pic real.)

The ottoman/Turkish state have committed SO MANY atrocities and just pretend they haven’t.

      Absolutely reprehensible country.

Zero Europeans should be spending money in north Africa or Turkey, actively funding our enemies for cheap sun. True insanity.

The conflict against the turbulent Kurdish tribes who took advantage of the war fatigue of the newly established Turkish Republic and tried to establish regional dominance cannot be called “genocide”. Whether you know it or not, consult impartial sources before playing the victim.

    7. Parallax_P on

not genocide. The Turkish state, which became a republic, wanted to break the power of the landowners who exploited the local people and turn everyone into equal and civilized citizens. Lands were bought and distributed to the people so that they could cultivate and reap wealth. The landowners did not like this and started a rebellion, and they massacred many people until the rebellion was suppressed. They are spreading these kinds of claims together because it serves the common interests of the Kurdish, Armenian and Greek lobbies who want to gain political power. If anyone thinks that there is an impartial world, there is genocide in Palestine right now.

Oh another fake propaganda. Also there is no city called “dersim” in the world.

sıfır kanıtla sikm sonik bi foto paylaşmıssın götünüzden uydurduğunuz olay yaşansaydı sen burda olmazdın sen yat kalk Atatürke dua et anamızı sikmedi die keske hepiniz sürgün edilseydinizde kurtulsaydık

    18. Erdogan acknowledged this event some years ago. Maybe he was looking to score political points with Kurds?

What was the motivation for this massacre? To stop primitive ISIS-style tribesmen from oppressing women and hoarding land? I’ve read this logic before from Kemalists. Or was it to force assimilation of an established minority group to bring them in line and break their communities?

Either way, not a great look for Ataturk at the end of his reign. Conservative estimates put the death toll at around 10,000 people, the great majority of whom were most likely civilians. This was shameful.
