2 horror weeks ahead which look very likely to become a nightmare for a longer time. I still have hope ND can win, but man will it be hard.

GEORGE-CRIN-LAURENȚIU ANTONESCU -pro european, candidate of the governing coalition
NICUȘOR-DANIEL DAN – pro european, mayor of Bucharest

GEORGE-NICOLAE SIMION – ultra nationalist leader of the far right party

VICTOR-VIOREL PONTA – euro skeptic candidate broken off the main coalition party

Hungarians voting for the pro-european candidate while Romanians are voting for a far-right nutjob was not on my bingo card for 2025.

More like a map of larger cities, Hungarian minority and the rest.

Every act and every choice has its consequences.

      I am sorry for you.

It’s hilarious how absolutely dirt poor countries like Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania have spent decades leeching off the EU only to turn their backs on it after two decades because they want an exotic thuggish strongman. Admitting them was a mistake. Eastern Europe is beyond saving. It might be impossible to root out their Soviet mentality and Russophilia even after achieving relatively prosperity and growth. Only the Baltic states appear to be somehow normal and unproblematic after being accepted into the EU (I think that this is partially due to the fact that they are culturally and mentally closer to Northern Europe).

So it’s clear that people of Romania wants a change? And they voted for Simion?
Why EU politics are so pissed? Isnt it a democracy when people get to choose?

Oh… of course, he is not handy and doesn’t align with the mainstream agenda

Despite all the drama he is not going to win the second round so this will be over in a couple of weeks.

Wasn’t it better to let Georgescu stay? You cannot just get rid of the most popular candidate and then expect more people to not radicalize. I don’t get why romanians are anti eu, makes no sense tbh even if there is russian propoganda, but they are , and you just don’t go after their leader that late if you do you turn him into a messiah and now you gotta keep banning far right leaders if you don’t want the right to win cause they absolutely will.

Romanians really voted the same as when the elections got cancelled. Seems like PSDNL aren’t doing that well:)

I don’t understand why Romanians are anti EU.

If they want to see what Romania would look like without the EU, look at Moldova.

Who designed this map should be fired, like there is little to no difference between 2nd and 3rd candidate.

    13. petr_bena on

I don’t really mind if Romania elects anti-EU president, but for fuck sake, please LEAVE the EU, if you really want out so bad, don’t be like Hungary that’s just shitting on EU all the time, taking all the benefits, just parasiting on it, while blocking all important decisions and actions.

You’ve got the labels wrong. Yellow is for stupidity.

    15. Can someone from Romania please explain why the far right has become so popular?

    16. i_like_trains_a_lot1 on

Whoever picked that blue-purple colors for two distinct candidates didn’t really do a good job…

    17. diggitythedoge on

If Romania fucks this up they are throwing away any hope of a decent future. Romania needs a leader like Maia Sandu. Now.
