Seems like pretty standard soft power stuff reading the article, unless I’m missing some wider point? Would have thought USAID provides financial assistance to NGOs in a similar manner to how the ILD/CPAFFC is represented here?

      >Ultimately, we should pull back the cloak of neutrality that party-state affiliated organisations often wear, to see who entities active in Ireland are connected to in China and engage with a clear understanding of what objectives they serve – so that co-operation is informed, transparent and in the public interest.

Agree with this, but interesting how this call to action specifically calls out China and doesn’t extend to the US or Israel for example.

“The goal is to counter criticism of the CCP, secure support for it and advance the country’s national interests. Rather than coercion, this approach mainly relies on incentives – offering events, training and media engagement. These efforts often operate beneath the radar of national governments and can result in foreign individuals or institutions unknowingly advancing CCP interests”

Ireland uses the IDA and Enterprise Ireland in a similar way. I would imagine most countries do it.

I suppose the author is hinting there is something nefarious about pushing the interests of the CCP, but wont state it.

    7. Article all about China using “Sort Power” and the article is written by a Stiftung Mercator consulatnt, a think tank that is supposedly all about making sure Europe stays democratic and unencumbered by foreign politics, and yet curiously has not once ever published an article about US soft power in Europe. These people truly believe we are all idiots
