Do you guys think he will have a similar style to Merkel (Assertive and competent despite the flaws) or Scholz (weak and folding to anyone’s pressure)?

Edit: I didn’t expect this to be such a triggering question lol. As an outsider, Merkel seemed alright, definitely a leader, with ups and downs. But Merz seem to be a populist, that will do more harm to good to Germany, possibly making it easier for AfD to get votes next time. I hope im wrong.

Good, as there really is no time to waste.

Hopefully he can reset the crucial relationship with France that suffered quite a bit under Scholz who could never warm to Macron (and vice versa). Focusing on the security pact and a new nuclear shield for Europe, including the UK, are good early signs.

He should get along well with his EPP colleague Donald Tusk, especially as Merz stands for a more hardline position on Russia that aligns well with Poland’s.

He is like the old used car in your uncles garage that never gave up. No punch line left.

17h and already this photo made 69 rounds around internet to lose so much quality.

Besides that, I hope it’ll be cool next few months, as other countries makes changes in their diplomatic chairs too.

Good, Germany needs to radically change their foreign policy doctrine: no more of the pacifism and “peace through trade” (mutant Ostpolitik) that define post-WW2 German foreigh policy.

Germany alongside France need to become hawkish and lead Europe in a new era where we don’t use the carrot, but also the stick.

I’m german and contrary to public opinion, I like this guy. This is the reason I voted for him – I couldn’t stand Scholzes cowardice in foreign politics anymore (I voted for him back then in more peaceful times!). Scholz was too dangerous. Anyone remember the 5000 helmets as the German response to Russias invasion? I felt so ashamed back then. Putin played him like a fiddle and he was too arrogant to see it – rather framed it as being reasonable and calm, which he clearly wasn’t!
      Way to go Friedrich!
