When raising the fishing net from the water, you hold this in one hand, grab the upper edge of the net about 1m at a time with your other hand, and put it over the sharp end. Then you grab the next 1m and repeat.

When laying out the net you do the opposite. This helps against entanglement and makes the net easier to lift and handle.
