I’m not sure if the headline captures the real issue. It’s more like Europeans have to decide if they’d really fight Russia to keep the baltics.

I really want to believe it, but I have very little faith when it comes to most Western European leaders.
They are still way too dependent on public opinion. One example is my home country, Denmark, where a lot of opinions are formed on what pleases the large boomer voting base.
This is why we still have politicians calling modern nuclear power dangerous…

If a war breaks out and people need to be drafted or we need to cut down on leisure, then you can be sure that the person in charge will get grilled for it.
Western Europeans are far too comfortable and expect others to come and help them so they can continue living comfortable.

I hope that I will live to see a shift to a more “baltic attitude” in the EU someday, cause it’s really needed.

Have we really? We are still paying more to Russia for oil and gas compared to the support given to Ukraine.

      _Our_ error?

I’d say the US losing unfettered influence over an entire continent is a bigger blunder.

Very informative, Well written and encouraging article. I do Hope the baltics dont need their preperation. But it’s good to know that they are prepared. May Europe be with them in Times of need

Somehow I am so pessimistic and the public needs to be worked on when it comes to war readiness. Despite Poland being based, I think there was a poll with 40% saying they would flee in case of war, no question.

What will the polls be in Germany?

Meanwhile russia has no major problem firstly creating an army of 1-2 million swallowing 1k-2k people per day in losses like it’s nothing, and replacing them with volunteers.

Europe still has a view like war is optional and you can just opt out.

Remember that the US troops are in Europe for their own interests, and trump said numerous times that the US won’t defend Europe no more. So the expect ed outcome for them if russia attacks the Baltic states or Poland is tuck tail and bravely run away, like they did in Afganistan. But the good thing is that the EU understands the only Ukraine is standing in russia’s way, and they alone understand how to fight such a depraved enemy. Glory to 🇺🇦

I don’t blame them for pursuing a world without major wars. Not having another arms race would have been great, but unfortunately this is realistically not possible.

BS, it is them who felt arrogantly stronger with NATO and believed USA, Europe told them it will not end well if they didn’t start being more diplomatic with an unstable country.

Europe will stand united against tyranny, that’s good enough for me
