Holy shit the UK caved. Market access for beef. Absolutely mind blowing.

“ She says “it can’t be understated” how big the deal is for American cattle farmers.
“This is going to exponentially increase our beef exports. And to be very clear, American beef is the safest, the best quality, and the crown jewel of American agriculture for the world,” Rollins says.
The UK and EU have, for years, limited American beef imports due to added growth hormones.”

The sad thing is that, after all, Trump’s bully policy accomplished the result of forcing countries into unequal deals

      UK-US deal >

      * steel tariffs down to zero
      * car tariffs down from 25% to 10%
      * new reciprocal market access on beef – with UK farmers given a tariff free quota for 13,000 metric tonnes
      * no change to UK food standards on imports
      * removing the tariff on ethanol – which is used to produce beer – coming into the UK from the US, down to zero.

Americans are dumb enough to consider their new tax a win.

    5. D_Silva_21 on

I don’t really see how this is a bad thing tbh

And we’re still working on a deal with the EU anyway

    6. I_Will_Be_Brief on

This is miniscule. Irrelevant. It’s mostly just for show.

US Beef can’t meet UK standards as it’s impossible to track from birth due to US Live import procedures.
Their beef can piss off but I’d like a cheap V8 Mustang

Would actually be informative if it showed the original trade agreements to see what the overall changes were.

    9. We had virtually no tariffs on the UK and they had 1% on US. This is not a big deal. China and Canada and Mexico are a big deal.

    10. CheapAttempt2431 on

The 10% tariff on almost everything still applies, and this is on a country that has a trade *deficit* with the US. How does anyone think this is good, this is Starmer bending the knee to a bully.

We might as well open up NordStream again if this is our standard for behavior

    11. Does the 10% car tariffs apply to any car manufactured in the UK? The biggest being Nissan, Toyota, Honda, etc. or just British companies: Mini, Jaguar, Land Rover, Rolls-Royce.

Ethanol and beef Vs steel and cars?

That is the industrial powerhouse of USA?

    13. TheElderScrollsLore on

I mean does this mean anything if tomorrow he may wake up and raise it to 100%?

    14. TomatoesB4Potatoes on

Wow, Trump is claiming victory for fixing a mess that he created. The tariffs are still higher than before Trump took office, so overall trade will still likely be down. How is this a win a win for anyone?

Am i just not seeing the US W here? Looks like UK made out nicely.

    16. ramonchow on

      Mmmh

“The 10% tariff, announced on Trump’s “Liberation Day” last month, still applies to most other UK goods entering the US”

    17. Earl0fYork on

Not bad. I mean I expected worse but at least starmer didn’t capitulate on this one

    18. PreparationWinter174 on

Even if the beef is compliant with British Food Standards, I don’t know if there’s a market for “Product of USA” meats.

    19. mangalore-x_x on

The US had a trade surplus with the UK in 2024… though only 12 billion

      Grand injustice
      .. fixed?

Belfast is about to become the biggest exporter of BMW, Merc, Audi, and all other eu brands….. For years we have been buying untaxed amazon.co.uk parcels time to give back…

One of the important bits is Pharma will be at a reduced rate once pharma tariffs come in.

Good luck Ireland. Let’s hope the EU can negotiate that also.

    22. Didn’t the US have a 2,5% tariffs on cars before Trump and I suppose the UK kept the EU one of 10% after Brexit. So is it me or the US just aligned themselves with the UK on that ?

    23. scarab1001 on

Big plus to avoid awful US food standards. And no increase in taking US’s Vomit Chocolate.

      Could be worse.

    24. Idk why there’s so much bickering here. Obviously the UK should take the best deals they can get. It’s no use proving some kind of loyality to the EU here. Apart from that, I don’t see how this should be bad news for the EU either. On the contrary, it just proves once again how easily Trump cracks and backs down.

Only two weeks ago he put the UK deal on a “backburner” because he was pissed they wouldn’t lower their food standards. He said he’s more interested in getting South Korea to agree to a deal than the UK.
Two weeks later, there’s no deal with SK, the UK got a deal and didn’t have to lower their standards. He basically caved on everything. He’s going to cave with Europe, too.

    25. GlitteringAttitude60 on

What did the UK give the US in return?

Knowing Trump, I expect the answer to be “nothing”.
